I didn't say they were just a payment processor. I understand the value they provide.

If the argument is that they need the 30% to recoup costs, then fine, I can agree with that. But that means the 30% isn't just about protecting the user experience, which is my point.

HTML/JS aren't first class citizens on iOS when it comes to API access. You can't take pictures, get reliable sound playback, create notifications, etc.

Apple is pushing people to the App Store to create a better user experience, but they also have made decisions that protect their 30% cut at the expense of that same experience (for recent examples, see the Dropbox API rejection and the ina

It's not a binary situation. There is a medium between the high rises of Manhattan and the large single family homes of the suburbs. More to your point, dense cities can be much more sustainable than suburbs. Money spent on infrastructure b

The worst part is the lack of information from Apple. If Rogue Amoeba knew what rule their app violated they could be retooling it now. Instead they are in the dark and losing money.

I don't mean to be nitpicky, but you can zoom in the default camera app with the pinching gesture. And the only todo app for the iPhone has had iCloud support from day one, since it was first released with iOS5.

Building on the LAMP stack is still worthwhile when you don't have the time or money to devote to sysadmin tasks. I use Rails, Django, raw PHP, whatever makes the most sense for the job at hand.

Looks great. I think I've moved beyond wanting Coda 2 for the desktop (I use BBEdit + Transmit instead), but it'll be nice to have the iPad version as a kind of mobile insurance.

It's not about punishing success, it's about realizing that the market is not perfect at distributing wealth, and that wealth is not created in a vacuum. To the first point, are bankers, the founders of instagram, athletes, and movie stars

Given the enormous cost of Adobe software, you'd think they could afford to support their previous major release version with patches. CS5.5 is only a year old, and was not a free upgrade from CS5. Other commenters here are right. Microsoft

Dropbox accounts are free to start, and you don't have to give them your credit card.

Having built sites in Rails and Django, I far prefer the Django docs in terms of content and visual style.

The article attempts to paint Apple as hypocritical for criticizing Microsoft over their plans for Windows 8, by saying their approaches are largely similar. But that's not true. Apple is borrowing some conventions from iOS and reimplementi

I had the same reaction to that comment. If anything, I have more respect for people who do jobs I'd find soul crushing.

"...as long as it's acknowledged that without putting in the extra hours to learn, grow, or ship..." Something is wrong with a job that doesn't fit those things within a normal 40 hour work week.

That jumped out to me as well. There are a few spacing issues with the buttons and logo, but that's it.

As your screenshots show, the project hierarchy is in the sidebar, but the open files are still displayed as horizontal tabs. BBEdit lists the open files under the project file list: http://www.barebones.com/images/bbedit/project-window-lg

I think it's damning that the police go out of their way to hide they are performing this kind of surveillance. It's as if they know it's wrong!

As a graphic designer with many designer colleagues & friends, I can tell you that we complain bitterly about Adobe software. Since they purchased Macromedia, their tools have stagnated in features and yet somehow managed to get slower.

Very true. The SDK is free, but it's not like you're getting XCode or Visual Studio with that download. Their IDE (based on Eclipse, right?) is $500.

I despise endless pagination. I do most of my browsing on mobile devices these days, and endless pagination can quickly overload the measly RAM constraints on my iPad and iPhone resulting in a crash.
