I’ve tried and backed off the same idea. Funny enough, I also recently read that Cal Newport strictly advises people not to use time blocking for their after work schedules for similar reasons.

MS has done this before with a short exclusivity window for Samsung devices since they are a preferred partner.

The openness of Windows is why it’s not suitable for school environments or even many professional environments. ChromeOS is hard to break, and even if you did, it’s a 5 minute process to restore it to a workable state. With that said, I ho

FWIW, the NBA 2K game is not published by EA. But it is still full of micro transactions!

No doubt! I regularly use Reader view in browsers, Instapaper, and RSS readers to escape the ad strewn hellscape we've created online.

CSS is sucky for large projects, but it's enabled truly beautiful sites. JS on the other hand...

For sake of argument, the most important thing is app support, not the operating system. I’d happily run Windows 7 or Mac OS X Snow Leopard if I could still access all the apps I use now.

They already did #1. Apple is saying they have to do #2.

The thing is, the majority of Macs sold are laptops. It doesn’t make sense for them as a business to build a strategy around what’s best for desktop machines.

What makes you say Twitter “massively overstepped what would reasonably be considered moderation”?
343.
by ChrisLTD 6y ago
Doesn’t just about every platform, forum, blog comment section, etc. do this? It seems untenable not to allow moderation.

What’s “platform status”?
345.
by ChrisLTD 6y ago
Agreed. My guess is that's an organizational issue. Some developers at MS would really like these features, but can't get them approved to be in the official Windows roadmap.

It'd be nice if it were faster, but considering the usefulness of WSL, I'm cool waiting ~3 seconds for the terminal to load the first time after boot.

What are you eyeing?

There's plenty of content and creators exclusive to services and often stuck behind paywalls. I can't muster any outrage about one more person joining their ranks.

I’m really hoping that Oculus improves the weight balance of the Quest headset for V2. It seems to put all of the weight on my cheekbones no matter how I adjust the straps.

I don’t see VR taking off anytime soon, but I also think it’s a bit tiresome to say that a product category isn’t successful unless it nears the ubiquity of the smartphone. By that measure, plenty (most all?) profitable and useful products

Apple is doing reviews for extensions, and also tightening up the APIs at the same time. At least on the Mac you've got alternatives if you're willing to make a different trade off. iPhone users and ChromeOS users are stuck.
