Apple is trying to thread the needle. They want to allow content blocking, but they do not want to allow content blocking plugins to see and potentially report on what sites you visit. Personally, I’m totally cool with the trade-off of ha

Politicians and the people that run our mass media have a vested interest in the status quo, so they are happy to keep the hoi polloi talking about a narrow set of topics. If we start addressing the greater injustices in our society, the ga

It might be worth considering that society shouldn't keep growing. Eventually we will outstrip the planet's ability to sustain us.

I'll give you that cities like NYC are stinky and expensive. But NYC in particular is a very safe place. We have about 300 murders per year with a population of 8.5 million. Yes, I might live within a mile of a murder, but I also live

In 2017, nearly 40,000 people died from gun violence in the United States. The mass shootings are emblematic of a larger and uniquely American problem. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/us/gun-deaths.htm

I'm grandfathered into the old rate, so presumably I'm getting a hike from $35 to $50. That's honestly enough of a price increase that I should probably shop around again or maybe even go back to cable TV.

Your two points only matter if game makers want to roll their own rendering engines. If you use Unreal or Unity, you’ve got first class Metal support out of the box.

If the shows are good, the service will succeed, and the shows sound interesting based on the previews Apple supplied today. With that said, I can’t believe Apple didn’t announce any pricing information. We’ve been hearing about this servic

Correct. My assumption is that Apple didn’t want to spend the money to redesign the cases and add the inductive charging necessary for the newer Pencil.

Twitter should charge ~$1 for every new account. Since Twitter is no longer a growing product, they are way past the stage where a nominal charge for new accounts would hurt their KPIs.

I think we'll see an explosion in AI created works, and then a countermovement to only consume things crafted by humans. Sort of like what we've been seeing with "organic" foods but for music, art, and news.

Pro laptops outside of the Apple ecosystem seem better than ever. I hear good things about the latest Lenovo, Dell, Huawei, and Microsoft Surface products. As long as you're willing to spend $1,000+, you're getting a great system.

It seems odd that Windows 10 even has Home and Pro SKUs. I can’t imagine the headaches that must cause programmers at Microsoft, as well as the confusion it sows among potential buyers. Microsoft should consider something like raising the p

It's not all that helpful to use "norm-breaking" as a rubric to judge politicians because it leaves out important considerations like if the norm itself is bad, or if the outcome is worth the sacrifice of the norm.
