Huh. Their website ( http://soixante-neuf.homosexual.horse/veritas/ ) does seem at least somewhat satirical, and yet, if they are trolling, they are quite committed to it. They do seem to post a lot on reddit about Brown

I had originally heuristically reasoned in a similar but opposite way, to the wrong answer. To wit: 1. P_{1/6} = 1/6 [when rolling one die, you have a 1/6 chance of getting more than 1/6 many sixes] 2. P_n -> 1/2

The dismissive mention of "gender-studies rants" as canonically not fit for Hacker News disappoints, but does not surprise, me.

Perhaps 10, 20, and 100 years ago, it was also a tragedy that so much effort was directed toward the minor desires of the reasonably well-off and so comparatively little into addressing the needs of those with little disposable income.

This mode of thinking is apparently common, and yet so alien to me... When you're 80 looking back, are you really going to wish you'd put in more hours making Dorsey or Brin & Page or whoever more money? At the expense of your

This is not the best wording, but it's what I have for now: Label the top, left, bottom, and right edges of the square T, L, B, and R, respectively (so T and L are the ones which must be glued to each other, in suitable fashion). Cut t

Yup. Note that the method of specifically being fed the input sequentially, one by one, means that, for example, "Strings of odd length whose middle character is 'X'" does not comprise a regular language, even though one

The value i can take an a priori unbounded amount of memory. It should be noted, so can the value n, but in defining regular languages in this way, we allow our O(1) memory algorithms to be fed the characters of an a priori unbounded input

Oh, just as opposed to unary. Writing numbers in the ordinary way in any ordinary base, which is to say, bases greater than 1; base 2, base 3, base ten, whatever.

The vote total on this went quite a bit up, and now has crashed all the way down. It'd be cool to see upvote/downvote splits instead of having to deduce them by paying frequent enough attention to track history in this way.

Ah, yeah, I see now that that is indeed probably what they meant; thanks! In that case, yes, I'm sympathetic to that, using regex to just mean "Anything that ultimately describes a regular language".

Sure, for a fixed arbitrary integer M. (Supposing the input is fed in in big-endian order, you just keep track of the remainder modulo M as each new bit comes in, updating it by turning r into (r * 2 + new bit) mod M. Since this only requir
