Utter rubbish. Prime ministers have long held weekly audiences with the monarch. The monarch has the right to review legislation before it is put to parliament. That mechanism has been used to change laws - in your lifetime, on this side of

She may have earned the house to some degree (the article outlines a number of government subsidies which make this doubtful), but she definitely didn’t earn the land value increase. I’m reminded of this quote: > Landlords grow rich in t

Don’t forget there have been massive loopholes in vehicle emission regulations which favour larger SUVs and pick-up trucks. If regulations actually focused on MPG, these vehicles would not be the size and weight that they are. https:/

It sounds so hard to believe that streets became “much more dangerous” with “cyclists out there to kill pedestrians” that I looked for sources on the matter. First result [0] says there were zero pedestrian or cyclist fatalities in 2019, wi

The police chose to ignore it, but when we consider the full history of the police and wider institutions choosing to ignore children being abused in a variety of ways by a variety of people, the reason “not to look racist” is patently absu

I use EFTSTUB with Arch Linux and I agree about it taking up more of your time. However, for me, this was all the very start to first set it up. Since then, it’s been smooth sailing. I also use multiple kernels and I have had issues with ke

This is like the Framework laptop but it's a UK-based company that has been around for years, and with an explicit focus on Linux compatibility to boot. I'm surprised I haven't come across them before as I've been lookin

Yes, please! I often tap the “[-]” button as well and it is quite difficult to get right. Especially now that the “next” button has been added. It is very disorientating when I accidentally tap that. In fact, all tap targets are too small f

In the UK, employers pay National Insurance based on their employees salaries and this is not shown on the employees’ payslips. This is a tax on the income of workers which almost no one in the UK even realises exists. The “gross” salary nu

Everyone is making excuses, but the simple answer is: yes, it’s misleading and deceptive. It’s allowed, as many, many, many other bad things in this world are.

This certainly depends on local rules. For example, in the UK I believe dental businesses can only be opened by a qualified dentist. I was surprised when I learnt this earlier this year. This source [0] says “non-dentists cannot set up or b

A 1080 Ti is not a mobile GPU. Mobile GPUs have the “m” suffix. You just happen to have a (probably underclocked) desktop GPU in your laptop.
