I'm hoping it's like Apple Pay, where I choose and authorize with Face ID + button. It shouldn't be passively readable. Anyways, it will be awhile before it applies in California. CA DMV is not an early adopter of this.

I use Apple Pay quite a lot and I'm looking forward to vaccination record support in iOS 15. But I don't think I have a use case for this. If I did, it would be my choice; I don't particularly like do not need to unlock, sho

When I worked in Italy, I learned that Italy is pretty much the best place in the world to eat Italian food. The variety there was amazing too. On the other hand, they were crap at Chinese food and couldn't figure out the humble hambur

I'm actually working on an LLVM backend. I'd read the Dragon Book before, long before, but I think my real education was the LLVM Developer Meeting tutorials. LLVM is pass oriented but broadly there are front ends (Clang, Rust, Fo

Your notes, while honestly very good, don't cover data flow analysis or Single Static Assignment (SSA) which is what LLVM IR [1] uses and which are the tools that the article's optimizations are based on. Hell, LLVM backend engi

These optimizations are on LLVM IR into LLVM IR. So basically every backend benefits. I don't think most backend engineers would even understand them. I don't.

South Dakota voters passed medical marijuana, Measure 26. They are still a very red, conservative state. I think legalization is, if anything, overdue.

Some people, when confronted with a problem, think "I know, I'll use regular expressions." Now they have two problems. That isn't even a criticism of regular expressions nor is this a criticism of functional progr

Apple has been the longtime LLVM stalwart, starting from when they first brought out Chris Lattner from the University of Illinois. There are whole subsystems which they've driven such as GlobalISel. However with the M1, Apple has move

The Intel post didn't say "Other compilers also don't upstream everything". So you shouldn't put that in quotes. However, that is an actual argument. This isn't GCC where that would be required. This is LLVM

With respect to LaTeX, I only started to use it semi-recently in the cloud and I'd recommend it to anyone (but only in the cloud). I don't want to master an editor anymore. I want to get work done. Pretty much the same with LaTeX.
