Yeah, this is insanity. It's not common. Its still the 1% of startups, at best.

Surely you aren't serious. Feudalism required working for the landowners near where you lived. In our society you can change jobs, start your own business, move, do freelance work, or not work at all if you so choose. I agree there are

This will just lead to more private companies that average Joe doesn't get to benefit from. Creating rules for private companies would take a refactor of our entire legal system.

Sure. But are any of those businesses really doing well these days? For the longest time facebook told businesses that advertised heavily on their platform that they had no intention of getting deep into verticals, that instead those busi

This is a big deal. And not just because it will obviously cause big problems for existing dating sites, but instead because the longer-term prospects of this strategy are the beginning of an amazon-like vertical strategy for facebook. Inst

While I appreciate the nature of these questions, many of them exclude network-driven consumer businesses. You know, those like Tinder, Facebook, Twitter, Medium, Yelp, FourSquare... If you're spending time with a consumer company like

(Hey Leo) I agree, this is hard to do. Because most investors triangulate on 15-25% per round, and use the amount of money you expect to raise as a way to back into a valuation. As a founder, the best way to do this in a seed round would be

Not exactly. Google orders and displays advertisements based on expected value (to Google). Then the winner of the slot pays the lowest market-winning price. Overly simplistic example: eBay bids $1 max and Amazon bids $2 max. People searchi

I used Sprig in San Fran a bunch when I lived there. I moved back to Chicago about the same time Sprig expanded there, which I thought was convenient. But the quality here was never the same as it was in SF. It left a ton to be desired, all

Note to entrepreneurs: this is a really, really bad term if you see it early on in a companies life. It allows nasty investors to put a gun to the head of the company to either bankrupt the company or (in reality) force a crazy negotiation

I agree it shouldn't be priced in that way, but it should be compared in that way. Leaving relative prices out of the equation is unfair / biased. Of course xfinity has more services, but it's cost per increment of speed is d

Too bad they don't have "X Dollars per Mbps" - because that's what really matters. Google fiber is what, $70 for 1000Mbps? The fastest XFinity package in Chicago (that I can see) is $79.99 with commitment for 75Mbps.

This is great. Next up: I'd love to see true Debit card transactions (i.e. With Pin) at Debit prices (perhaps 10-30c regardless of transaction size). That could really enable a ton of smaller items to be sold to a very large audience.

The beauty of modern capitalism is that it is more about incentives, not performance. Incentives drive swings between consolidation and fragmentation, because individuals believe they can profit from being different from the status quo.
