I agree, and I think it's yet another symptom of the hypercapitalist society we live in. Kids are bombarded with media telling them that success is when you get rich and famous, or when you reach the absolute top of your field. Then ag

The fact that a company has the legal rights of a person is a mockery of human rights in my opinion, and Citizens United a huge mistake. That aside, I don't think you can judge the intent of a company's actions. Let's ignore

My only question is, prior to the 'my manager sucks' posts and people getting encouraged to stand up for their rights/humanity, what exactly was r/antiwork _doing_? I feel like a majority of users still want to abolish w

Same with Github, you can disable issues or projects or whatever other features they have at a repo level. I agree that this and feature flags are a great way to toggle things, but unfortunately for apps like Postman you still feel the load

Not to minimize your own feelings/experience, but I wonder too if younger students are just so much more exposed to the technology that you were being taught that they only needed to learn half the 'net new' information you d

Honestly the fact that Google got entrenched even more (or Zoom) is kinda scary to me. A few years ago it was noted that Google was basically giving away tech for free to schools so that they could embed themselves and eventually start sque

Yep, same. I'm in the same boat as others where my comfort with piracy is high enough that I continue to maintain my libraries that way despite paying for various streaming services. Find a few friends who think the same and have sprea

Did something change recently or did someone just notice this? Verification of employment/income is standard practice in many finance-related fields, and is required to get a mortgage in the US, for example. My company integrates with

Was gonna post the same recommendation! I've been lucky to add a couple of contributions to the lyrics plugin. The project is maintained by a lovely CS professor who really puts in a lot of time and effort. I've been using it for

Yeah, agreed. They also had no self-awareness to admit partial fault for the ban. They just immediately put the blame on the algo (again, because dang was being so dang nice). Post is also 8 years old so who cares?

You would need to hire a hardware/ops specialist who can buy, spin up, and maintain physical machines. That's a $100K+ job at any reasonable startup (not counting benefits) which is more than our Heroku spend (4-5 year startup). K

I wouldn't give FB/Meta _too_ much credit. I'm pretty sure they would comply with China's regulations if they were able to. It seems much more likely that FB cannot effectively moderate the amount of content people post

Even with 'excellent insurance' (which I think I have as well), you still deal with deductibles, non-covered procedures, inability to choose and shop for prescriptions, limited choice of providers, HSAs, massively inflated prices.

Appreciate the educational back-and-forth between interesting companies in here! Having just done a review of auth vendors (including FusionAuth + Auth0), I think your product addresses a much simpler use-case. FusionAuth and Auth0 support

This seems somewhat natural, at least to me. Imagine you're talking to your friend, and you say the exact same thing you tell Google: "North Korea DHL". They're not going to have any idea what you're talking about (
