Honestly, my Thinkpad from 2015 was still used in my family until recently. The battery was pretty bad, same as on my 2015 MBP, but other than that, I put Fedora on it, and it was still really fast. Longevity is not only a thing of MBPs. OT

Same. I don't like VSCode, but debugpy is, for me, a killer feature for which I'd pay if I had to.

Personally, I need support for remote debuggers, e.g. debugpy on Python. Would this feature help me debug code that's already running on a remote server and I just need to connect to it?

Personally, I'd consider this nothing to write home about. It's OK. Not great, not terrible. If we're laying off 20% of the company, I'd expect the package to be somewhere in the 6-12 months range. To me, that would seem

Really? 16 weeks of salary, or 4 months of pay. In my country, you get 3 months of pay as standard when you're fired from your job. Doesn't seem that great to me to be honest.

How about describing what exactly taking full responsibility means for them in that particular situation? Saying e.g. what is the impact on the situation for those responsible might be nice - no bonuses for next year? A plan in place so tha

At first, I thought it was like $35, and was almost ready to order it. Then, I realized, in my morning haze, that I'm not seeing the decimal point, and it is actually $340. For that kind of cash, you might as well get the real Vita fro

Yes... I think the trend of "raw dogging" a flight is a response to the constant need to do something - scroll through a phone, listen to a podcast, read the latest NYT story... Doing nothing, on the other hand, is pretty much w

Just like we had with TVs and other screens. Interestingly enough though, when I look around in my office, the majority of people in my team wear glasses, so there's that...

I don't think that's what it means. Raw dogging a flight means staying awake while doing nothing. I suppose most people that want to "raw dog" a flight will fall asleep eventually, so I guess there's that. But I thi

Waymo works in specific areas only though. As soon as you get out of San Francisco, Phoenix, Los Angeles, or Austin, the car wouldn't have self-driving capabilities. I suspect it'll be some kind of AI-powered assistant that will t

Why do we need a "programmer's perspective"? Exercise has nothing to do with programming or engineering specifically. Exercise (ideally, some form of exercise that strengthens muscles that atrophy while sitting) should be a t

In the EU, IIRC, 2024 is the year that EU starts mandating a bunch of stuff in vehicles (most notably, speed limiter IIUIC).

Well, it takes 30m the first time, when learning from scratch. When learning the arcane cron entry system, I'd guess it takes even longer than 30m, unless you have a simple time in mind (like "every minute" or something simil

Which is much easier than fiddling around with crontab, in my experience. Yes, you need a systemd service file and a systemd timer file. Creating both is a matter of ~30m. Then, you do `systemctl start` and you're good... As a great be

Given a million years, I'd say the human race ending is more likely than the human race figuring out how to run Bloodborne 4 on a Steam Deck, given that in a couple years, Steam Deck 2 will outperform the original SD.

Amazing. This made me want to play BB on my old PS4 that's gathering dust. Then, I remembered it's 30FPS locked, and has pretty bad loading times. I'll wait for the emulator, or a remaster, whatever comes first I guess :))

Some times, the writers don't want to repeat themselves because they were taught that it's "poor writing." And I'd agree, maybe, in (some) prose. But in tech docs, please, repeat yourself instead of using "this
