Okey, Can you then provide me some info about those Java compiler/LVM stuff? Last time I used Java was in time it had Sun Microsystems logo :) It was sth like Java 1.5.x. JRE installer was 16MB, so for my standards its already quite he

Yeah. Same here, mostly self-hosted. Running VPNs everywhere. Internet is still good transport layer. Old web I care is still there too, but I mirror everything I feel I will need in the future. Just in case.

Hah, Linux zealots downvoting I guess? Do not worry. Acually, I feel the same. Ive been tried serveral Linux desktop distros and always there is something annoying there, pissing me off. Im still on Win2003. For now im buying my time using

Its not necessary for multihoming. I am el-cheapo multihomed using Linux router. I use policy routing with 2 default routes (primary and secondary) and everything works like a charm. I could even try to do some ECMP but I care more about st

Huh? FreeBSD had this 15 years ago already (if not more). Thingie is called DUMMYNET. Imunes utilizes netgraph thingie that can be connected thro pipes (DUMMYNET) to emulate whatever delay, bandwidth and BER you want. Very handy thing to ch

Nice sum up of simulators and emulators. My personal favorite is IMUNES. Works very nicely as VM and its lightweight. You can run 100s of instances without problem.

You wrongly assume that everything will always go as planned. Disasters happens due to whatever reason. The problem is, more junk you will put into orbit, more stuff can go wrong. I think we can use those orbits for more importand stuff tha

Hah, nice article :) I remember fighting with Cygwin pipe implementations to have decent performance from them. They are hella slower compared to Linux, but still usable, just tricky to pass data in/out.

That selfish was NOT the the OP. It was for general audiency who prefer all the bandwidth for themselfs. We know how most people behave. They do NOT really care what others are doing. For years, I was proud of my QoS because my entire home

So what? You dropping packets, and they are still coming, eating BW and buckets. Because traditionally UDP did not have any flow control, you just treat is as kinda CBR traffic and so you just want to leave it queues as fast as it can. If t

Well said. I too was looking at IPFS few times, but hardly could find a place to use it. Im a big fan of distributed storage or self hosting, but IPFS is far too static for anything usefull, except maybe archives of import static blobs.
