I just find the rationalization amusing, though I doubt it will matter either way. Since the rate of adoption of this diet is so slow, and the relative proportion of daily meat-eaters keeps growing as countries develop, we'll either fa

Climate controlling tens of millions of square kilometers of arable land is not feasible, unless we are already at a technological and energy producing stage where our current problems are all resolved anyway.

There's already a user talking about it their success in this very thread, though obviously they are an outlier and probably closer to the prospector than the shovel seller in some ways. I've seen multiple examples on HN and vario

I am under the impression that the optimal strategy, if you have technical skills, is to be constantly on the lookout for new shovels or other tools to sell to the prospectors. Build quickly, sell quickly and it doesn't really matter i

As far as I can tell, it is possible to draw such a scene by adding in the pieces and using the tools to paper over the boundaries and integrate those elements. It takes much more work than just generation but maybe one fiftieth to one hund

No, guilt is fine. Trying to avoid or sidestep the guilt through rationalization decreases respect. Though if we are talking about sociopaths, the base respect is low enough that it doesn't make much of a difference.

I understand this reality, but that is what I am referring to as manipulating people for gain. That is literally what is happening. That it helps businesses doesn't change that.

The elephant in the room is that if you lead a fulfilling life, smartphone addiction is easy to cast off unlike most legal or illegal physiological drugs. I agree that the disingenuous mindset you are alluding to is a problem. The technolog

This makes it sound like pacifism is in itself a stable and meaningful thing but it's an opinion that can only exist with the support of the non-pacifist. You need the context of a stable territory that is maintained by force to remain

>I get it. I'm default vegan but bought some brie to enjoy tonight as a treat, wear leather shoes etc. You are not vegan. We can't confuse the idea of seeing the world as less black and white, and outright changing definitions.

There isn't really an animal-using industry that involves humane conditions. Most justifications to the contrary are usually in bad faith, such as citing mom and pop farms or whatever as if that were even remotely the bulk of the sourc

It's not about the reason, but rather the act of living in an authentic and bold manner and not making up excuses to assuage your guilt. You can respect one trait of the person while not approving of them in general. And sometimes more

As a meat-eater, I definitely respect vegans more because they have a clear ideological reasoning and don't rationalize. Vegetarianism seems really milquetoast in comparison, assuming it's not done for health reasons. It's th
