Disagree with the DI/IoC comments - for more complex projects, it allows dependencies to be pulled in in a nice terse and readable fashion. Runtime complexity also can be harder to manage, as it often ends up in a spaghetti of knowledg

I'm skeptical of this as well, and while I had no problems with react-router on a side project, I have misgivings with the router being coupled to JSX - IMO, this is an unnecessary coupling of what should be service logic to components

JSPM also normalizes importing in ES6 from AMD, CommonJS, and ES6 (not sure about TypeScript, probably though). It is built on top of System.js, which lets you import modules and allows you to configure the local global namespace. Edit: Loo

I actually code with one tab open with Facebook...I trained myself to ignore it unless I have a free moment. Sometimes it's necessary for me to be responsive there due to having plans to do something later with friends (i.e. meeting up

I think the worst is when some people show a sense of entitlement and default to throwing a tantrum when a response doesn't go the way they want, even if it is the logical outcome of what has happened. For example, one time I had close

You admitted to being a beginner - a beginner shouldn't be recommending technology choices beyond that a particular choice might help people get started. There is too much a beginner does not know was his/her point.

This is probably my biggest criticism of React (and by extension similar such as Angular 2, although React's choice of JSX is a clear exacerbation of this problem) - the move towards more tooling is terrible for what should be somethin

I don't think Amazon compensates that much - I interviewed with them this past summer, and they tried to lowball me. I gave a firm number that I would not go below after giving some numbers I have turned down in the past, and the proce

Startups will give better offers at the lower levels - however, as someone gets more experience, the big companies will go far and away above in total compensation typically. Even companies like Uber, Airbnb, etc. aren't paying as well

Look at total compensation - average total compensation says ~$238k for senior, which certainly seems to confirm numbers...and they may be higher currently since I'd guess that those numbers probably span across a number of years. Goog

I always wondered that too - Europe isn't necessarily cheaper either, and electronics are much more expensive in general. But $90k is not the norm for starting in the US. I started at $50k in DC for example post-grad school. $90k is pe

I seriously thought about taking one of the big $ offers and doing just that. I had left a startup within the past few weeks then, and was seriously burnt out of 60-80 hour weeks, heavy dose of blame abuse, & product cycles where a sale

Employees sometimes take big risks too - I have (naively) given up over $100k/year opportunities on top of salary working at startups, including 60-80 hour work weeks for a year in the trenches coding, and have had nothing to show for

I'm pretty sure Google has invested millions more into Angular & the ecosystem than Facebook has into React - they even have a CSM on the Angular team. Even internally the investment seems to be proving vast, as Google even has a p

While it may be possible to tell competance easily this way, one thing I found difficult to tell without live coding is someone's ability for architecting components. One recent hire at work is competant at coding, but for a senior eng

A caveat to that is that they need to be well-researched before filing issues - otherwise it actually is a negative, especially when a modicum of effort reveals when something actually is a usage issue and not a bug.
