I think your phrasing is needlessly hostile. Around the world it's quite common to have an extended family serve as a support network, especially around childcare. You're right though that maintaining no-screen when your child is

I'm not sure that's a good long term solution. Like, once they see that all their friends have a smartphone, I think it's natural they'll feel jealous. What are you thinking of doing at that point?

It reminded me of one of pg's old essays – http://paulgraham.com/addiction.html . Highly recommended. On a personal note, it's also something that worries me for the day when I'll finally have my own children

I think many of these articles are overestimating how things will change. Like, is the current mess going to hurt Twitter? Definitely. Does it mean that Twitter will become completely marginalized and in 2-5 years nobody will ever user it?

That seems a bit like wishful thinking. People don't have unlimited ability to learn new skills. Training takes time, and someone who spent several years honoring their craft won't be able to pick up a new skill overnight. On top

So this might be naive, but... what interest would someone have in taking down HN? Like, people with skills to run an attack are also more likely to actually enjoy participating here. It'd be like someone trying to take down Stack Over

I think the real problem is not Musk's antics, but laws that allow something like that to happen in the first place. This situation is just a symptom of a deeper problem.

What's the timescale you're talking about? It's completely different to pick up a project after 3 hours VS 3 months. On shorter timescales, I think it makes most sense to just... not break off. Obviously you can't always

I think the goal here is not money, but making it enough of a hassle that spammers wouldn't bother. So if someone from US actually wants to go through the trouble to save $3, well, at least they're unlikely to be a bot.
