I am working at a startup currently. However, I'm not "searching for validation" here, I was asking specific questions the Y Combinator funding cycle. I'm also unsure of what you describe as my "angst"- I am not anxious or fearful of this p

I'm in New Jersey (United States). Looks like we are in the same boat! I'd love to apply with a co-founder but I also don't know anyone that's remotely interested. If you want to talk, feel free to send me an email (the address is in my pro

This reminds me of an article Time Magazine did on Norway's Halden Prison. Essentially, when the Norwegian justice system treated their inmates more humanely, their recidivism (crime after prison) rate became 40% less than the US and the UK

I've adjusted recently to have 1.5 hour naps in the middle of the day (I'm a college student), so then I can go to bed at around 1 AM and wake up at 7:30 AM, and be well-rested and awake the entire day. It's almost like taking the nap in th

Interesting idea (that is, launching the site with hardly any features). Good way to make sure the product doesn't become vaporware.

Well, the question is, how far does that go? If I put up photos on a public web server intending them to be private, is that still legal?

I think it's a stretch to call this "just" a mistake. First of all, there isn't any malicious code that has to be run to execute it, it's a simple as clicking a few buttons in the UI. Secondly, Facebook is a site with hundreds of millions o

This isn't even a security hole, it's a complete security disaster. Did they even think through the process for five minutes before they built that? I mean, there aren't even any hacks involved. Nice find.

What is it about European countries that make them so reasonable and open to progress? This is great news, because for once there's actually a law on pirating that's based on research, unlike US laws centered around "job creators" losing mo

Well, he credited the author, built a plugin around it, developed and designed a website so more people could use it. Plus, he only recommends a $3.00 donation, and what indication do you have that he isn't sharing the money?

Read benbsholz's comment ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3243628 )... It really doesn't hurt to remind people about this and make sure they take action. The future of open source software is at the core of HN, and it could really get

I love this, I use it to keep myself in perspective from time to time when I alt-tab to Reddit fifty times in a minute without thinking. Also, use of the Lost soundtrack was awesome. Really underrated music IMO.

This is great, developers could use a voice at the W3C. Wait, how did they do that awesome effect with the screenshot that's slanted and angled like that? Is that a special filter, or did they do that in Photoshop?

Aw, man... saw "PA" and thought "Pennsylvania". You know, not everyone gets to live in California so long that Palo Alto becomes shortened to an acronym. :( Looks like an awesome barbecue though! Will there be coding involved?

Yes, it should gloss over those things. If you're getting into Rails, there's an understanding that you know what the terminal is. That's like complaining that a tutorial on how to make a good sandwich doesn't explain how to open a refriger
