So the HN post did work and you’re going back to a platform that treated you badly? If I were you, I’d copy what needs to be copied from there and close all accounts. Encouraging “customer support only through social media outrage” is not a

Don’t use Digital Ocean for anything, not just production. Your account may be locked up and customer service will keep sending boilerplate responses. There is no way I know of to contact a human and find out why the account is locked and w

This is old news. When this change happened, there was a lot of outrage and anecdotally many people started using Telegram and Signal. But my guess is that at least some of the people who switched went right back because of network effects

My eyes glazed over looking through your comment. I think you and the author of the article are in agreement as far as this part of the article is concerned: “What we want is to look at a port and cable and know what they do. That shouldn’

In case it wasn’t clear, the GP’s comment was sarcasm, considering the messy combinations that make it sound anything except universal.

The last thing I want is another centralized and monolithic platform that requires a phone number, exposes phone numbers to everyone, and takes weird decisions on non-disclosure (be it source code of parts of the platform or the financial i

Leave it to Signal to keep things hidden for long periods of time (like the server code while it was building some cryptocurrency). Seriously, Signal is not an open or transparent organization by any measure. Ironically, it’s an authoritari

A very late reply. I have been using NextDNS for a long time, but it doesn't block the video ads on YouTube that come up while watching a video.

I’m a bit confused with the Pricing page. Does the Chrome extension limit of 30 minutes per month in the free plan mean that completely local use on one’s computer is restricted by time? How is this tracked?

Restic doesn’t have a GUI for backup/restore configuration and actions (yet), but I found that Borg has a GUI called Vorta [1] for macOS and Linux. This was mentioned on a HN comment several days ago by @crossroadsguy here. [2] [1]: h

It’s not clear which iPhone/iOS version you’re using and where you’re looking to block YouTube ads, whether it’s on a browser or in the YouTube app. Magic Lasso is an app that blocks YouTube ads on Safari, but it’s a paid subscription.
