If you are referring to my comment, I didn't mean just construction, I mean this is how the Swiss work in general. They always plan ahead and think long term in pretty much everything they undertake. It's their mentality, and I&#x

Not in this case, as the train is specified to go at 250 km/h, which means that the tunnel had to be pretty straight, or else the train might derail at that speed.

That is typical for Switzerland, and it is because for the Swiss, "planning is 50% of the work". They invest the time up-front in planning and thinking about how whatever it is they are doing is going to work, and once they either

Perhaps that is true. Humanities & arts majors have very high social intelligence, which often lands them into management positions, but then both they and the company start suffering from the Peter's principle, and the results hav

Of course not; hardcore, laissez faire capitalism like there is in the United States would correct that, and the salaries would go down. However, as it stands, there is an overabundance of humanities & arts majors, and way too little en

The analysis neglects one major point: a lot of people got degrees in the humanities and arts: dual majors in English literature and history, or sociology and psychology... what are you going to engineer with that? Engineering requires phys

That is not how RAIDZ works. Because every write is a dynamic width stripe , the capacity is an aggregate minus parity, not linear. The smallest device capacity applies to RAID1+0, which is mirroring, but it does not apply to RAIDZ.

Java and illumos are licensed under two completely different licenses, and neither illumos code base, nor OpenZFS are an application programming interface.

Actually Id'd say that it's mostly the crappy processor design issue: for example, UltraSPARC has 32 physical registers in 32-bit mode, and 256 virtual registers (through register windows, specifically designed for compilers). Eve

Oracle has nothing whatsoever to do with OpenZFS. As in zero, nada, zilch. And because of CDDL, Oracle cannot take back the source code from illumos (which contains OpenZFS code) without open sourcing the code to Solaris again: https:&#x2F

    by Annatar 10y ago

ZFS has defragmentation built into the very design of it! It doesn't fragment, it actually turns all random writes into sequential ones, provided there is enough space because ZFS uses copy-on-write atomic writes: http://con
