Yeah, my daily driver was an Audi with a rotary dial for about a year (no touchscreen at all), and Android Auto was great on it. You get to know the structure of all menus and can take actions blindly after a while. It's been almost a

Highways are relatively easy (always the first target for almost any type of driving assist). And highways account for large amounts of the distance people drive. Maybe not for the time spent driving though. If you can do full self-driving

VW has a massive battery order spread between Samsung, LG and CATL, but yeah, I agree Tesla will have a solid lead on battery production for a while. I wonder if Tesla/Panasonic will at some point start selling mass produced batteries

Tesla has been very fast to release their self-driving capabilities (navigate on autopilot is pretty spooky), but in general the VW/Audi group shouldn't be too far off. The e-tron that was just released isn't as efficient as

There's been an uptick in conspiracy theories lately, I kinda blame the whole "mainstream media lies" movement. Some people are starting to believe that if almost everyone believes something, it has to be a conspiracy. My fav

Two years ago when we checked out the DASH and HLS support in Edge it turned out to be so unreliable we still just went with Shaka instead. Fun fact: besides FairPlay compatibility, HLS in Safari is way more annoying to deal with than HLS v

It's impossible to play DRM video without heavy JS (except in Safari). Netflix probably uses a similar library to Shaka for their DASH streams. HTML5 video is only really simple if you want to just play MP4's with H264 encodings.

Plyr is really good and has an impressive UI and accessibility. But there is no way extend the player with new complex functionality or a tighter integration with Shaka/hls.js/other ad providers/... I think Plyr can be seen a

The way plugins/backends work in this is fundamentally different. Video.js at it's core does very little and doesn't provide a very strict API. The result tends to be that every ad provider you add on does things slightly dif

If all you want to do is play a simple unencrypted video without ads, a <video> tag is indeed all you need. As soon as you start working with adaptive streaming (DASH/HLS), need ads, need a more advanced UI or need better metrics

Coming soon: Amazon launches free DNS service on 3.3.3.3 and 3.4.3.4? It's pretty crazy though that that huge range goes to Amazon in full. Wouldn't it have been better for the health of the internet as a whole to get them back to

Yes, the cause for throttling is only thermal as long as your battery is over ~5% charged. In fact, while charging performance might even be a bit lower because charging the battery generates some heat as well, further lowering performance.
