There is some truth in this - We do a poor job of preparing youth for making choices in adulthood, and understanding the consequences of those choices. I think we need to do better at offering youth (during adolescence) what could functiona

When I saw you mention multiple hospital stays a year, I went "well a single admission runs about 20k" and extrapolated from there.

Boeing wrote most of the book on how to do this stuff safely - they just stopped following that book once they bought MDC and its management took over (and arguable laid off the engineering people at MDC who could do it the MDC way safely

I think its worth studying - but I suspect that's nipping around the edges again - if you're dying of alcohol related illnesses, its from buying sizable quantities of booze at the place that sells booze - not a beer with lunch.

There is also another survival bias factor. Wood continues to cure and harden (and shrink) when it's put into place in construction - in 70-80 years, It'll be just as hard as the wood in a house from 1890.

What in the regulatory framework substantively changed? The only thing I can recall was to-go liquor sales with takeout - which I strongly suspect is not a big mover of change here.

Also even if the right geography exists for walking, does the climate locally support it? Under 50 outside, most folks just nope out, same with over 80 outside. Heck, most people cannot walk three miles without breaking some sort of sweat i

As someone with some knowledge of the BLIT and other intelligent terminals, I've often thought about them as an alternative path of evolution in computing. One we've kinda worked our way back to in a way - with much fatter clients

I don't think your math adds up. Combined cycle is like at most 70% efficient, subtract 10% of distribution, you end up with 60%. At 50f my 5T heat pump takes 6.6 kWh to generate 50,000 BTU. 6 kWh of energy takes 71cf of gas to make -
