I tend to get PDF workshop manuals, print off the pages I need for a task and put them in plastic pockets to stop them getting destroyed in the rain.

Hosting is on a $20/month Linode along with a bunch of other projects/sites/bits of code fluff. The actual bandwidth used by this site will be virtually nothing I imagine. I haven't valued my time at all. In that respect it is already ea

That was my initial thought but I have to see how the revenue scales. At the moment it's only profitable because my labour has had zero cost. It might scale quite nicely though - I think finding the right material is probably key.

You're right - and also credit should go to the excellent http://bootswatch.com/ which is where I got the themed Bootstrap from. I'm a lover of Bootstrap but I hope it doesn't define the site.

You're right about the pictures for sure, I need to add a few random pics and thumbnails for chapter headings. I focussed on SEO for starters and Googlebot doesn't see pictures, but now that I have people I need to think about actual aesth

You are right, the ads look absolutely shit - I could perhaps go with Buysellads when traffic picks up. Interesting idea - I'm a huge admirer of things that follow that model - Michael Hartl's Rails Tutorial and Avdi Grimm's Object's On Rai

I put in the comments because I thought it'd be an easy way of adding some content for free as people add to the information already there, and also to let people moan about errors so that I can then go in and fix them. Comments are a fair

I had a look at the Schema stuff - I actually use it on another site of mine ( http://thebigeat.com ) for listings of takeaways, but it has made no difference SEO-wise and it tends to make my markup look like shit. But nevermind A/B test

I'd welcome any suggestions on where to go next - it's a bit of a fire-and-forget side project, but I'd still like to get it as good as possible before I leave it to stew for 2013.

Thank you for your intelligent comment. It's a hard topic and even questions with easy answers end up descending into a moral and historical quagmire.

Comment deleted. Fuck it, I can't even be arsed. There's so much bullshit and so many wankers that come out of the woodwork when this sort of topic gets raised. I've flagged the whole story. HN is better without this sort of shit.

I'm not saying it will, but that it's more likely to. No-one knows what technology brings to the table. Eg. "it is not our intention to sell your photos" But what if some kickass image analysis startup emerges that can mine valuable data f

This is a completely different style of incident response than parent company Facebook's. I much prefer this (relatively) straight up approach, although I'll admit it's more likely to come back and bite them in the arse a few years down the

Books go in a box. Choose the size of box to accomodate the books. Don't do what everyone does and put all the heavy books in one box and all the bedding in the remaining five.
