For a long time, I was just annoyed. But it has become clear that these digital currencies are one of the most revolting and pathetic things our species has ever created. Great job!

Thank you - I've only ever used Firefox and forks thereof, but I ignore all the new bells and whistles that come with releases (since v2). This is one to which I should have paid attention! That said, it seems most of the sites I touch

I wasn't aware of this, but it makes me dislike 'crypto'-currency even more, which I did not think was possible. Thank you for sharing this.

Agreed! It makes me suspect that there are other, similar alternatives to popular websites. If I weren't so self-conscious, I'd start an "Ask HN: lite sites?" thread.

Is this for use with a handheld computer-telephone? I would love to see some kind of "about" page that explains a little more. When I visit the page, I see three lovely pictures of espresso, a title at the top, a line that says, &

Just for my own clarity, are you saying that the Apple telephone is not used for surveillance? Even by Apple?

I absolutely love software easter eggs. Though I was surprised to not see my very favorite one, the LOTRO hobbit and squirrels in the Easter Egg Archive website. I tried to submit it, but submissions are paused. Anyone else here know this o

I'm not trying to be snarky, and while I largely agree with you, I feel like I'm missing something. Are you saying that the only time that it is 'fit to print' something about this topic is when we have arrived at the c

I too have a passion for complex magic tricks. And while what you say may be true for tricks which rely on gimmicks, with sleight of hand, the opposite is often true. I was a stage illusionist in a 'former life', and started pract

"Also hot take: we need to stop making kids read Shakespeare in School." I strongly disagree, though I entirely agree that the plays were meant to be seen, not read. Despite this, they happen to be some of the most profound writi

"The feeling of being exposed occurs whenever the Internet addresses us in the second person." This has rubbed me the wrong way since I first saw an icon that said "My Computer". That's the computer addressing me, i

One thing we should be doing is supporting critical thinking at the high school and university level. Unfortunately, it seems we have been dedicated to the opposite of this for about 50 years, at least in the US.

On that topic, no, I am referring to observing my own children learning from a laptop. I could not have been more skeptical of this approach at first. I was wrong - the approach has worked well so far. EDIT: I definitely should have mention

Some scholars would argue that this began with the era of the phonograph, the telephone, and the airplane. I tend to agree - we've been in this for a long time. Authenticity and 'the genuine' were discussed obsessively by (al

Agreed, though there is probably more to it. I stopped wearing clothing with logos when I was 19, because I didn't want to impose on people. Still love my Red Sox hat though.

I have had the complete opposite experience. I was in academia for 15 years, and have never seen such a lack of humanity. I was at a small, highly regarded liberal arts college. I now work for a multinational American corporation - somethin

Not sure why I'm being downvoted here - I agree that this idea has been the same for most of history. Your example of folk music is an odd one, for exactly that reason - it largely repurposes existing art. For example, Wagner wrote ext
