I also think deception in the form of "just admit you murdered the person and you can go home" should be illegal. Police aren't empowered to make plea deals and they shouldn't imply or outright say that they can.

For some reason I thought I had read that Horizons was faster and would eventually eclipse it, odd. Anyway I'm still curious if V1 outlasts New Horizons

It will definitely happen, the only real question is if we're still talking to New Horizon when it passes Voyager 1. In fact I wonder if we'll stop talking to Voyager 1 before or after New Horizon.

That's annoying. I really want to fully remove lightning connectors from my life, but, my existing magic* devices work fine and will probably work fine for another decade or two.

The touchbar was useful in one important way. Because it made the esc key useless for touch typists and because, as a vi user, I hit esc approximately a bazillion times per day I mapped caps lock to esc. Now my fingers don't travel as

I had the 2019 i9. The power difference and the cooling difference is astounding from the 2019 to the M1 (and the M1 is faster). I actually use my laptop on my lap commonly and I think the i9 was going to sterilize me.

"SSD is soldered on" is a bit of glossing over of the issue with the M-series Macs. Apple is putting raw NAND chips on the board (and yes soldering them) and the controller for the SSD is part of the M-series chip. Yes, apple coul

It's really very easy, honestly. My laptop is my work life and my personal life. I spend easily 100 hours a week using it not-as-balanced-as-it-should-be between the two. I don't buy them because I need something new, I buy them b

Yep. I've never kept any laptop as long as I've kept the M1. I was more or less upgrading yearly in the past because the speed increases (both in the G4 and then Intel generations) were so significant. This M1 has exceeded my expe

Deeply ironic considering how wrong Boeing has been in so many other ways, but, its been fairly obvious that the hub-and-spoke model the A380 was built for was dying in favor of the point-to-point model of the 787/777x. Airbus will adj

I've been doing this for a year or two with k3s + cert-manager. Works great. In my case everything points to a tailscale operator endpoint, which goes to nginx ingress, which routes to the appropriate pods. It's very much a set-an

OK why do I care about how the OSI defines a word which predates the existence of the OSI by over 1000 years?

It doesn't meet your definition of the word open. Of course they didn't know what they were doing. It was written by a 19-year-old in the mid 90s. The code is messy with poor licensing and some build tools were included in the rep

Really considering how little power a mini draws (30 watts) it really doesn't matter how devastated a location is. You can effectively indefinitely power it with a fairly modest battery+solar setup. I've been solar powering my min

You're correct that most people who get ham licenses are good people, but, the venn diagram of licensed ham operators and people who bought a baofeng off amazon does not have a lot of intersection.
