It depends how you define rural of course. Starlink could pretty easily serve everyone whose only current option is 4G/5G/DSL/Satellite. Basically everywhere where there is no Fiber or Cable. That's still a decent chunk

It's not about the other side of the world, my RF remote-start works reliably only to maybe 100 feet or so. I park directly below my office window so it's no issue for me to hit the remote start and then leave 10 minutes later but

The service costs orders of magnitude more than what their actual costs should be. You can have an LTE connection for probably around 10c/month/sim at the scale of Mazda with tiny amounts of data (plenty for, say, 100 remote start

There is lots of value to LTE-based start. It works even if you're too far from the car for the RF signal to reach. I park just below my office window because if I'm too far away, my RF-based remote start won't work. Also bei

For a feature like remote start, this makes some sense, but companies are trying to charge subscription-based fees for things which have no ongoing expense. For example, BMW offering heated seats as a monthly subscription. Regardless, ongoi

If it's done well, there are some useful features there. App unlock, remote start + remote temperature control. All very useful. I couldn't imagine buying a car without carplay now.

Agreed but my favorite thing is to take a Makefile and throw it into ChatGPT and have it give me a justfile and seeing it remove all the weird makefile patterns.

Agreed that it's a problem but probably not a huge one today on the internet since most loss is actually a result of congestion. It has led to some weird things whereby the L2 protocols (thinking wifi and LTE/cellular) have their

At 0-1%, basically anything. Your wifi and home network probably are closer to 1% than 0%. at 1-10%, you're probably on some kind of shared connection (CMTS or GPON with TDMA) and your provider has an overloaded network design (and you

As someone who knows both languages intimately (written more code in both of those languages than any others), I can't think of any two (non-toy) languages which are more diametrically opposed. This is deeply cursed and I love it.
