That's not a fix. People in houses will breed even more people and/or people will move in from afar--and then one generation later you're back to where you were before, only with more total population, less room for the eart

Flag the entire site for enforcing a very short headline length limit, like it's 1978 and we're reading it on an 80 character teletype. Must be a LISP thing.

You can get way more than half a million dollars per year making something that touches half a million people by working at a FAANG. In the end you're likely to be much wealthier by working there than at a failing startup. It's

Here, you have kids whose parents are employed (that is, not on welfare, can do their job) and the kids are strongly motivated to do well in school so they don’t have to join the military, like their parents did.

The original (apparently staged) FSD promo video featured a tagline which read, “The person in the driver's seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself.” What a dangerous fraud.

AIs do not create new works. They merely blend multiple copyrighted works together to create a new derived work. Just because the derived work comes from multiple authors doesn’t make it fair use.

People eventually die and their houses become available. It’s only population growth that creates housing demand, and for the good of the planet, that needs to stop.

Europe has been building houses for thousands of years. How do you think we got so many people? It didn’t solve the problem. It only encourages population growth. Building more roads doesn’t reduce traffic, and building more housing doesn’t

We would soon breed 50% more people. Building more houses reduces housing costs like building more highways reduces traffic.

OSS predates GNU, and GNU's influence is waning. I wouldn't say Stallman's impact was that large. OSS was a thing before Stallman and will remain after Stallman.

Tesla can’t solve self driving, but it will produce a bot which can function in an environment which is a hundred times more open and chaotic than a road system? I don’t think so.

Fair enough, but Paxos has all of those things too, despite being extremely hard to grok. I guess "advance" is in the eye of the beholder.

Calling Raft an advance in CS is a stretch. It is an alternate and equivalent reimplementation of Paxos by those who didn't understand Paxos. They did succeed in making a protocol which people have more confidence that they understand-

Huh? The founders created these companies. YC just convinced these founders to give away a big share of their companies for almost nothing, in return for cult lulz. Accelerators are exploitative.
