I'm 27 and make a pittance compared to most of my friends who work in finance or have FAANG jobs. Does it sort of suck, yeah. But at the same time I can afford to live in New York and know at what point I'm going to call it. If

I like one-wheel type devices but will always prefer electric unicycles. They have more range [0], more safety over large bumps (due to a larger wheel and facing forward) and are easier to carry around when you're walking. Unfortunat

This article and the study it's drawing from is certainly cherrypicked or naive. There's been significant research to investigate the known cardiotoxicity of Psilocin [0][1]. Basically, for some unknown reason, micro-dosing to

Yep, this is certainly noticeable at higher bit-rates, for instance when you watch on a real blu-ray or a raw blu-ray rip. It's incredible how much color depth you lose with x625 encoding even with their purported "10-bit" c

Working at a startup that focuses on automating the underwriting process for freight factoring has been an incredible insight during the supply chain crisis of 2021. Something that's also interesting is the data that companies like Fl

Thanks for your input! I think what I'm grappling with currently is my new employer is more interested in fast work rather than learning. Even when I've spent a half day tinkering or digging into the code myself, the response is

Thanks for this constructive feedback. I live with other engineers, who are fortunately far more intelligent than I am. Maybe I'm projecting here, or maybe I just wish I could reach a similar velocity that my peers have? Anyhow, I&#

It's actually kind of insane how negligent super-yacht crews are. I've had a number of close calls sailing in the summer around the Hudson / in the ocean right outside of Manhattan. Many crews also have no clue how to handl

Yeah, I just hit 4YOE. Been working mostly with early stage companies and learning a lot, but it's time to buy a house and lever up - hence time to enter the leetcode gulag for a while and earnestly see if I can pass a FAANG interview

You're getting down-voted but this is true. If you want to make more than $150k base and anything TC wise over $180k and you aren't some kind of prodigy the leetcode grind is sort of the best way there... especially in big citie

Even though I had great internships and lots of early startup experience, what I wish I learned earlier was how to simply deliver reasonably with my current skill-level and use that to level up in an org. I'm much better with this now

First you have to make an important distinction, one that seems oddly difficult for many here on HN - you have to decide if you are earnestly committing time to this project *to make money*. If that's the case, now your time has value
