Hasn’t the current system of banks and paper currency basically been the financial system of chose since the 1700s? I see additions to financial systems, not total replacements. Crypto is trying to replace banks and modern finance, correct

So I am thinking about how many crypto fans suggest fiat money and banks are a thing of the past. I don’t think fiat money or banks can go away unless all their functionality can be replaced by crypto and do at least as well. With finances,

I always find it funny when people call for regulation in crypto. I just spent the past few years having crypto bros explain that decentralized finance is better in every way. Now they are decentralizing it and letting the government contr

Not to be super “arm chair psychologist” about this, but I always thought the whole “you deserve it if you got scammed” mentality comes from the people that believe crypto will replace all modern finance. For crypto to replace modern financ

To add to this, I think Linus himself mentioned this issue at a talk at a Debian conference. I think he even mentioned maybe gaming would save Linux from this, since games will not constantly update to fix compatibility issues so distros wo

Genuinely curious on what people’s thoughts are on ever using manual memory management? Are there many large programs (outside of embedded) where it ever really makes sense? I ask because I am a fan of C, and I am sure there will always be

Curious how much of this is truth. I am sure in your 20s or 30s your brain functions better per say, but how much decline is there really and how fast? And surely experience does make up for it in most fields.

Makes all of us (since we will all be 30+ one day if not alright) happy to know that Einstein wasted a lot of time trying extremely hard to disprove quantum mechanics because "God doesn't play dice with the universe."

I don’t like the celebrity soap opera, but I am pretty shocked by the people that defend Amber more than those that defend Depp. The people defending Amber are the same people that are on board with cancelling a guy because he is accused of

At the risk of turning this entire comment section into RTO debate, I want to sorta second this. RTO will be so much easier when the job market is flooded with failed start-up engineers and the tech industry cools off.

> “go but with ownership and borrow checker” Wouldn’t this be just a lesser version of rust then? If someone makes a new language and wants it to catch on, it needs new ideas. Not just nice simple syntax mixed with something someone els

As a junior engineer with 1 year of experience, I was really looking forward to my first job switch and salary increase. Starting to look like I missed the golden job market between this and Meta/Twitter hiring freezes.

To add to this, I wonder how "explaining the algorithm" will work with algorithms that are trained with ML. Essentially they are black boxes, right? So as a tech company, would I have to just say what my best guess is on how it w

Thanks! Yeah I'll think it over. Thats sort of what I was thinking, surely all the textbooks and knowledge is out there, so I could teach it to myself, but having a structured class is nice. I'll let you know. If I decide to go

Certainly Rust sits where C++ is. Zig and Rust are definitely best used for different things, but I think sweating rust off as in between C and Java is inaccurate.

Might be misunderstanding you, but a middle ground is any compromise. Rather than choose an echo chamber, I'll chose to have no opinions instead. That way I am not having only my opinions validated, I am not allowing any influence at
