It's not clear to me from this thread whether those messages only become public if one of the parties to the messages then download the chat, or even when a third party downloads the chat. One seems more serious than the other.

Footnote 4 [0] discusses the struggles of formatting comments. This was interesting to me because back in December I wrote most of a code formatter for Lox, the toy language from Crafting Interpreters [1], but I never finished it because I

I haven't mapped my caps lock to anything else, but on my Mac I ⌘-tab, which is pretty natural for my thumb and fourth finger given the position of the ⌘ key next to the space bar.

> It’s not clear if Facebook will also give a bonus to contractors who are content moderators. It seems like they are the most at-risk, considering they are not paid as much as all the developers.

It's not clear from your comment whether or not you're familiar with the book Weapons of Math Destruction by Cathy O'Neil, but you echo many of its main arguments about these types of systems. I can recommend the book if you

I have the same question, and in addition I'm confused why this repository seems to have been created by some random GitHub user.

It's horrible! I always hated this kind of stuff in middle and high school. I think that it's a combination of school administrators being out of touch and having pressures from their higher-ups. But for the sake of today's t

Wow, that's… gross. The university is treating its employees like young teenagers. There are always better things for schools to spend money on, such as faculty and staff salary. One wonders why they instead buy silly services like thi

I used to use time.is, but recently it's gotten more and more ads. Now, this new version of time.gov has the feature that compares device time to correct time, so I think I'm going to switch over.

For me (and at least one other commenter in this thread), the issue occurs when plugged into an external monitor. The linked thread seems to indicate the same. Any thoughts on that? I'll check the relevant setting.

That's interesting. I was watching a movie on my 1440p@60hz monitor last night on my 16" MBP in clamshell mode and the fans were on the whole time. That sounds like a connection.

I think you may be saying this sarcastically, but in response to the comment you replied to, at least my browser (Firefox) does do this. On this page, "ycombinator.com" is highlighted in white.

They display both because Google is selling ad space on searches like these, where people search the name of a site. If that site doesn't buy the ad, their competitor will. So sites are being forced to buy ads on their own trademark.
