Well, if you must know, I am the "IT Guy" for 9 different construction outfits. I'm not even a real programmer, but I am trying to learn (currently erlang, lua, python, ruby, and javascript; also git, and vim). I am now recording all my cal

I lived in roughly the same place for the last 20 years, so yelp is very interesting to me. I often notice poor ratings where I believe high ratings are deserved, but also low ratings where high ratings are deserved.

Apparently, there are numerous reddit fans that can't be bothered to type out a response.

Personally, I will never use reddit, no matter the subreddits, or whatever. Usenet and IRC are new again; killfiles and /ignore are powerful, and user-focused.

As an amateur, beginner programmer, I'm curious why you don't use something like Jekyll+S3 rather than tumblr. The dude that pulls my espresso shots uses tumblr...

No doubt, this is part of the reason this noscript_using_reader stopped visiting TC. Call me a tinfoilhat-guy, but I simply would not consent to the collection of such data. It's ironic that I've learned so much from your analysis of data

I must admit I'm nauseated by the number of references to reddit on HN. I think reddit is powerful and fills a void, but the few times I've visited > cmnd+w. Twitter is also useful on occasion, but simply not my "cup of tea." These site

Without yet reading any of the other comments, I have an anecdote that may be interesting to others: One of my father's business partners has a mother that lives in France. She is ~88 years old, and the family's net-worth is on the order of

That is interesting. I'm glad you posted it because I'm done reading these breathless blog posts, so obviously desparate for page views. Four years ago, I still read things like Gigaom, TC, and RWW, etc., but I've found they offer nothing o

The idea that people should be more specific when talking about one of the most well-known (and used) programming languages on a site called Hacker News is simply odd to me.

One could also get a PogoPlug4 for $100 right now, put Arch Linux Arm (ALARM) on an HDD, and then use the node.js package from the community ALARM repo. http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/pogoplug-series-4 https://github.com/archlin

Not to take this thread further off-topic, but I'm curious why your brother-in-law and yourself don't just order from your computer instead of making a trip to the store?

Thanks for that link, it was very helpful. It got me wondering if one could run most of your PAAS stack on dedicated hardware at a colo, and the Mongrel2 frontend(s) would sit in a small EC2 instance(s). Could give me your opinion on such a
