Having specific lines be easily repairable doesn't influence how Framework laptops interact with the rest of the market. It's very much not just businesses (or individuals buying business-line devices) that should be able to rep

While HP's service guides have been good, even on their non-business models, the actual serviceability isn't great. You have rubber feet that can't be re-applied after removal, and good luck getting replacement parts as an av

Wow, I didn't care enough about the news to actually look at any pictures, I just read the name and heard the general idea. That is truly awful . On top of the multiple visible layers of stuff everywhere, those are some of the ugliest

Great! We should all be worried when our governments lock themselves into situations with just a single vendor.

I've only ever seen Ada used in a military-related product, and there was one person on the team responsible for maintaining it. They didn't like doing it, but it was a legacy product, and they were the only one who had learned en

I wish it was normalized and easier to contribute to open-source projects that you use. I have recurring donations for Thunderbird and KiCad, and I make occasional one-time donations to the likes of KDE. I don't see a clear way to dona

I'm not Jewish, nor have I studied Jewish law/rules, but I don't think those could be justified as being sufficiently continuous. It's more of a network of various stations connected by discrete cables, rather than one b

When I want to visit Compiler Explorer, I start typing godbolt, then his Enter when the browser brings up the correct item from my History. "compiler-explorer.com" is also much longer (if you want to type out the whole things).

Seeing "all built-in functions and operators are single unicode symbols" stood out to me, given that APL existed well before Unicode did. It's not that it's wrong today, but that wasn't always the case. My father us

Did anyone see what the interval from caffeine dose to bedtime was in this experiment? I won't claim to have read every sentence, but I did skim the whole paper, read through the procedure parts, and did a couple key-word searches, but

As I say in the parentheses after that first comment on trusting it less, I mean it in a human sense, a person being two-faced or ready to exploit you then stab you in the back. While that and factual inaccuracy aren't mutually exclusi

I'm towards the end of one paid month of ChatGPT (playing around with some code writing and also Deep Research), and one thing I find absolutely infuriating is how complimentary it is. I don't need to be told that it's a &quo

A fun read, but I do find it a bit odd that in 30 years the author doesn't think that we would have reverse-engineered making CPUs, or at least gotten as far as the mid-70s in terms of CPU production capabilities. Also, the 10k years l

100 MB is a lot for a simple application. On the Android phone I had in the mid-2010s, that would have taken up a ridiculous amount of my precious little storage. That chain of dependencies does fall in line with the message (regardless of

I don't expect it to fetch everything from a server every time, not every app needs to be only a browser serving remote content. I just expect a simple app to be simple in size, there just isn't much going on in this app.

I do find it ridiculous just how big mobile applications have gotten. Why does the UPS app have to be over 100 MB? It's got maybe a couple dozen unique screens visible to the user, few image assets, and mostly just settings, and accoun

Unrelated to the issue here, I remain disappointed with the Wikipedia redesign. I find it too like a mobile-first-page, and I'm put off whenever I go to the site in a browser where I'm not logged in.
