I am not debating the mechanism of capitalism, its ability to allocate goods and how or whether it creates prosperity. For the record, it seems to me the most natural way for humans to interact with each other. My point is that to think tha

How can the capitalist, a single man, who knows that no state can efficiently allocate resources also be as presumptuous as to think that he knows what is best for society?

Did the CEO maybe have a hand in making HR set the guy up to test his loyalty? He seemed very loyal, but maybe to the wrong ideas/people.

I’ve given up on the idea of good and bad people. I myself am good or bad depending on how it suits me. How could I do anything else? From my experience a manager will choose the option he thinks is most beneficial to his continued employme

I’m not sure things are so black and white. Although I would agree that trust is earned, I don’t think trust is the most important thing. Rather than relying on trusting other people in the workplace, it would be better to develop a system

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have been a bit inflammatory explaining my problem. I appreciate that for queries which are expected to be re-run, it is useful to have an appropriate index. What I see from your proposal though is that the

I’ve always been wary of one-to-ones with the manager for the same reason. Is it ever good to talk about problems with a manager, especially regarding other people? It’s like the prisoner’s dilemma. I still don’t know what’s best for me to

So you couldn’t write the query. It just isn’t practical to create an index for every query which comes to mind during research, and even to create the index, you have to use a terrible, undocumented embedded query language.

Challenge, with context in my other comment at the same depth: Suppose you have a table which includes power usage readings for all devices, sent every five seconds. Something like this: (id, timestamp, power) Write me an ES query wh

I completely agree with the idea that ES might be good as a distributed search index. I really wish people would leave it at that. The company where I last worked had a main product which would send in readings every second. The only interf

I just looked this up, and it turns out I was completely wrong about how the wear is caused. Apparently it’s due to a build-up of electrons remaining in the floating gate over time, and not general thermal wear. It turns out that heating ca

The write cycles are realised by moving electrons through a material. This creates heat, which leads to gradual degradation of the material.

That was also my point. I was just pointing out that the idea that electrons shoot through the insulation to end up in the floating gate was not true.

The electrons aren't shot through the insulation. They end up in the floating gate by quantum tunneling. The insulation by its name is non-conductive, and must be so that the electrons stay put. The degradation happens through general
