I was interviewed by Fog Creek
- deleted 12y ago[deleted]
- GarethX 12y agoHe doesn't mean a recruitment interview but one about him for the Fog Creek blog.
- freyr 12y agoAgain, why 'I'? If the poster actually wanted to avoid that ambiguity, a better title would be "I was interviewed by the Fog Creek blog," or "Peteris Krumins' interview on the Fog Creek blog" My first impression of the title was that somebody interviewed for a job at Fog Creek, but the process was so impersonal that he or she had to put "I" in quotes.
- genericuser 12y agoPresumably because the person who posted the link to the blog post was not the person who wrote the blog post, and did not want to be getting Ask Hacker News style questions directed at him in response.
- janvdberg 12y agoYes, this. I would like to change it but the edit button is disabled (?)
- grey-area 12y agoI thought perhaps they interviewed for a job over the internet, but got their dog to do it.
- sakri 12y agoThanks for pointing that out, reading it, I nearly hyperventilated thinking : "if a guy of that caliber has to do interviews, I've no chance". Phew.
- kokey 12y agoMy thoughts were more along the lines of how does he get to rattle on with this level of detail about his history and style to an interviewer.
- adwhit 12y agoI'm always amazed when I hear a developer state that they use Windows by choice. Frankly it makes me look down upon them - no matter how successful they are (and this fellow is clearly very successful). I have to use Windows at work every day, and every day it will make me howl in frustration. How do people cope without a decent terminal?
- AndrewDucker 12y agoBy not doing much work in a terminal? I use a CLI for about 10% of my work, and that's all PowerShell, which works very well for what I want it to. But the vast majority of my work is inside either text editors or IDEs.
- dovel 12y agoUsed to think this before I used VS for web dev using ASP.NET... it's a good idea to not judge people for the OS they use.
- ceejayoz 12y ago> How do people cope without a decent terminal? I'm not a big Windows user, but PowerShell came out in 2006 and has made a lot of big strides since.
- emodendroket 12y agoPowerShell came out missing a lot of obvious commands it's gradually been filling in but the core concept is pretty good. It's easy to write a bunch of scripts and feel like it's just normal to waste a lot of time munging text but PowerShell kind of frees you from that.
- outworlder 12y agoDo you use Powershell ISE then? Powershell is a shell, not a terminal. The terminal still sucks and ISE is a poor substitute.

- henrik_w 12y ago+1 for the book "The New Turing Omnibus". Not very well known (it seems to me), but it has lots of interesting stuff. Perfect for little exploratory programming projects.
- Kiro 12y agoWhy 'I'?

- bjacobel 12y agoThe submitter wasn't interviewed by Fog Creek, but the author of the post was. When reproducing their headline the submitter quoted "I" because they didn't do the thing the title said.
- DangerousPie 12y agoShouldn't the whole headline be quoted then? This makes it sound very weird, almost like Fog Creek claimed they interviewed him, but actually interviewed someone else.
- janvdberg 12y agoYes, I should have done that. But right now I can't edit the title anymore (?). So if a mod reads this please go ahead and change it.
- underwater 12y agoThat's a weird convention. Typically I assume that submitter is not the author. If disambiguation is necessary then quoting the entire sentence is clearer.
- falsestprophet 12y agoIt's not a convention at all. It's just unnecessarily confusing (and irritating). Hopefully the mods change the title.
- vilhelm_s 12y agoI feel this is a problem with not letting submitters choose descriptive titles. "Peteris Krumins interviewed by Fog Creek" would be more informative...
- JustSomeNobody 12y ago+1 "Pen and paper are programmer’s best friends."
- raldi 12y agoMods, this was a terrible title edit. It makes it look like the submitter was the interviewee.
- dang 12y agoI'm not sure which edit you mean at this point, but the current title seems ok, since it's the author speaking, and most of the time the submitter isn't the author.

- weaksauce 12y agoI am really surprised the vim plugin for visual studio is not on his shortlist. It makes vs nice to work in for those of us who can't stand modeless editors.
