Is Twitter becoming a write-only medium?
I never really checked how much traffic I get from Twitter. But since I see so many tweets about my pages (by searching on twitter), I was thinking Twitter is one of the main "look at this" hubs on the net.
Today I looked at my Google-Analytics stats and guess what! I get less visitors then there are tweets about my pages.
On average, 3 tweets bring in 2 visitors.
Many of the tweets are linking via buffer.ly. Doing some research, this seems to be some kind of automated "tweet stuff with just a click" content. These accounts regularly have more tweets then followers. Why are they doing that? Why are they posting several times a day if nobody is reading it?
Anybody here getting significant numbers of visitors from Twitter?
- davidbarker 12y agoI've found quite a variation in engagement. I have one account with ~4,000 followers that I'm always tweeting and talking to people from, and another account with ~15,000 followers that I rarely use. I've noticed that if I tweet something identical from each, I'll get much more engagement from the 4,000-follower account, even though it has only a quarter of the initial audience. Overall, however, I think I have seen a drop in engagement since I first started regularly tweeting back in 2009.
- xyby 12y agoWhat does that "talking to people from" mean? How are the engagement numbers? How many followers follow a link when you post to these accounts? When I send out a mailing, about 3% of the receivers click on a link in it. If that would apply to twitter, an account with 1000 followers posting about my site would bring in 30 visitors. But as I said, on average it brings not even one.

- josourcing 12y agoI began using it early on as well, and have watched it turn from an ideal social media site to a modernized 1995 FFA page (free-for-all links page). That would be the first time I encountered something that simultaneously progressed and regressed as well.
- ponyous 12y agoI just don't get twitter. I started "using it" in 2011, but it feels weird. Only big brands promoting stuff, instead of keeping me in touch with people I care about. That what is all about, right? Same is happening with Facebook, I see less and less stuff from people and more from brands / pages. Can somebody explain me point of Twitter in current phase and in early (pre 2010)?
- atmosx 12y agoI don't get significant numbers from twitter (or any other source what-so-ever except google...). That said, I'm pretty happy with twitter. My timeline should be a lot clearer but having the (extremely stupid/bloated) facebook wall experience, twitter is a good quick way to engage. That said, for me and others works mostly and a news sharing platform. I happen to tweet mostly about politics and tech... And also my timeline reads mostly about politics and tech.. I'm happy with it, works for me.
