Why Personal Websites Are Coming Back
- GrinningFool 16d agoAI-generated article starts with the premise that personal sites are making a comeback, but doesn't support it; and overall doesn't say anything beyond they never left, and the tech is all the same. The styling may be intended to obfuscate the slop-ness of it. I read it so that you don't have to.
- gum_wobble 16d agoThanks. Why is ts in the front page
- TimVasil 16d agoAgree it's light on data. The "evidence" cited is traction with the IndieWeb, Neocities, and Bear Blog. I'm not familiar with these, but Bear Blog seems to be relatively new (5-6 years) and growing? The article resonated with me personally, though. I taught a continuing ed course on creating personal websites (with AOLpress!) in the late 90s and had my own until giving it up in 2016 or so, but coincidentally decided to try again this month.
- in_absentia 16d agoI honestly don't know what explanation is worse when these pieces about the value of human expression are generated by an LLM. It's gotta be malicious trolling or complete delusion.

- Yashjain413 16d agoI think one of the biggest reasons personal websites are making a comeback is AI-powered web coding. More and more non-technical people can now build things they’ve always wanted to build, including their own websites. As a non-technical person myself, I built my own website simply because I’ve always loved building things, but never really had the medium or technical skills to do it. Now I do and the medium is Claude code.
- nearlyepic 16d agoCan’t you fucking people go five seconds without making everything about Claude code? I mean Jesus fucking Christ next thing I’ll hear is that Claude code is responsible for the weather. As if nobody made personal websites because html and CSS was too difficult. Ever heard of FrontPage? Fuck me.
- karmakurtisaani 16d ago> next thing I’ll hear is that Claude code is responsible for the weather. Well, seeing how these data centers are being run with coal, Claude might have to soon take some responsibility for the weather..
- pacomerh 16d agoClaude or whatever favorite agent help people build things faster. The commenter clearly said > "More and more non-technical people can now build things they’ve always wanted to build" this is referring to projects, don't think FrontPage is gonna cut it here. Btw, isn't FrontPage like a really outdated legacy WYSIWYG thing?, anyway
- nearlyepic 15d ago> this is referring to projects, don't think FrontPage is gonna cut it here You missed the fact that this is a comment thread under an article about personal websites. Personal websites =/= web app projects.
- xtiansimon 16d agoThat was a ‘nearlyepic’ response—Lord’s name in vain, check. Foul language, check. Dino tech, check… I love Claude code and I hate front end development—JavaScript with it. I for one welcome our front-end development Overlords.
- nearlyepic 15d agoPlease point out where I mentioned JavaScript at all. You don’t need it for anything qualifying as a personal website, I.e. not a web app.
- hbcondo714 16d ago> Hosting companies can change...Point your domain somewhere else when you need to move. That is a much healthier relationship with technology. I went from Azure to Github for hosting so I guess my relationship with Microsoft ended up staying the same? - jmclnx 16d agoI actually moved my WEB Site to Gemini with a mirror on Gopher. My site is still active with links to the my G* Sites. I find maintaining both Gemini and Gopher is much easier than the WEB.
- VCFundedGenYer 16d agoThis is an AI-generated slop article. Pay it no mind.
