Space Force Uniform Is Inspired by Quasi-Satirical Film 'Starship Troopers'
- BLKNSLVR 24d agoQuasi-satirical? I didn't think there was any quasi about it.
- JojoFatsani 24d agoThe movie certainly is (directed by same guy as Robocop) I can’t comment on the source material.
- 00ze 23d agoI think they meant it's just pure satire
- Avicebron 24d agoIsn't it just the empire in star wars?
- happymellon 23d agoNot really. Their hats were different, and they didn't have as much shoulder flair. Plus the iconic painted blister pack that SW had on the breast. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_military_uniforms https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Imperial_military_uniforms

- cocacola1 24d agoGreat movie. Amusingly, Verhoeven hated the book.
- bigstrat2003 24d agoWhich is his loss, because it's a great book. I really enjoyed Heinlein's exploration of what is needed to sustain a healthy democratic form of government.
- stephenr 23d agoAre you saying that a story where voting is reserved for "some people" is what is needed for a democratic government?
- euroderf 23d agoPerhaps his idea was to remove the pro-violence influence of the likes of Cheney and Trump. War is not healthy for children and other living things.
- ultimafan 22d agoIt's been years since I've read it but iirc the difference between the book and movie is that in the book voting is limited to those who have done some form of public service- not necessarily military, and it's specified that regardless of your aptitudes, disabilities, etc. the government will find at least SOMETHING for you to do regardless of how hopeless your case is. Perhaps the point OP is trying to make is that that form of democracy is healthy in the sense that the only people leading it are those that, at the minimum, showed an interest in contributing to it.
- floren 24d agoAre we the baddies?
- gboss 24d agoYes, yes we are.
- LennyHenrysNuts 24d agoYeah, but you've got to admit, the baddies are always dressed better. That's got a serious Hugo Boss aesthetic.
- igorkraw 23d agoWell that tracks, he was in the Nazi party and produced (but not designed) the uniforms https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Boss_(businessman) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Boss_(businessman)
- expedition32 23d agoUntil they forgot to pack winter clothes and froze to death in Russia.
- andsoitis 24d agoOpening: > for his Space Force. For our Space Force.

- JohnnyLarue 23d agoThere's no such thing as quasi-satirical.
- peterashford 23d agoThis is what I came here to say.
- vrighter 23d agoIt used to just be satirical. Now it's quasi-satirical. Reality has caught up to the satire, unfortunately.
- SepiaSapient 23d agoMaybe they are trying hedge due to the original book not being satirical?
- ButlerianJihad 23d agoBut the barracks are inspired by Ender’s Game
- Lawyer24 23d agoLooks like Nazi gear
- dlcarrier 23d agoThe company made famous by designing and manufacturing the Nazi uniforms currently has over a thousand stores, including hundreds in the US, and earns billions in annual revenue.

- tim333 23d agoI guess a film about a fictional American fascist future society aligns pretty well with the current administration's vision.
