But like hydra, cut off one head, and two shall spawn. It should never be illegal to proxy another site, if the information content from that site was originally user generated. Using copyright as a shield is just a legal mechanism, and i don't believe it is just.
Therefore, it is civic duty for all to commit civil disobedience on this.
- nielsbot 1mo agoIt would be nice if every logged in twitter user's viewed tweets were transmitted to a decentralized aggregation service for all to view freely.
- techteach00 1mo agoWhy? Let the world yell into the void. Nobody is listening anymore.
- WithinReason 1mo agoSame with YouTube -> bittorrent, in my opinion
- nielsbot 1mo agoI do find it disconcerting for a private company to have so much control over what is not essentially a public resource. There should be a government provided alternative.
- georgemcbay 1mo ago> it is civic duty for all to commit civil disobedience on this. While I support civil disobedience, it would be more impactful if people just stopped using twitter. I suspect this may be an unpopular take, but this late in the game I simply think less of people who continue to use twitter while complaining about how bad it has gotten. Of course it got bad. And it is continually going to get worse. It is never again going to be that place that only lives on in people's rose-colored nostalgia. But... they can leave it. The world will keep turning, and in fact will improve.
- ButlerianJihad 1mo ago> if people just stopped using [X] That’s not how it works, and you don’t understand the Network Effects at work here. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49450055 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49450055
- georgemcbay 1mo agoMy point is that people can choose not to use twitter despite the network effects. I don't not use twitter because I think it hurts twitter. I don't use twitter because I know using it will hurt me. Any politician/business/service/whatever that only makes announcements exclusively on twitter simply won't reach me, and I'm fine with that. I can't think of a single instance where missing such an announcement directly on the twitter timeline would have changed my life in a significant way.
- beej71 1mo agoAll those groups that use Twitter for announcements need to consider the negative connotations of being seen there, IMHO.
- ButlerianJihad 1mo agoHonestly, I must personally consider the negative connotations and fundamental sanity of those who refuse to call the X service by a name it’s had for several years. To introduce even more confusion since the actual trademark holders are re-establishing it anew this year.
- beej71 1mo agoOld habits die hard, especially when the topic is twitterwebviewer. Sorry.
- bambax 1mo agoDon't know why this is downvoted. Users need to quit Twitter en masse, and others should not try to read whatever's on it. I quit Twitter two years ago and didn't miss it one bit.
