It's insane to cross Apple. In the worst case Apple could take the ChatGPT app down like they did to Fortnite. They are probably waiting for discovery to find out how high this goes.
- amelius 3mo agoWell, the EU won't allow it.
- jimbokun 3mo agoMaybe. Depends if they hate Apple or OpenAI more.
- bel8 3mo agoApple has a decade of beef with EU. OpenAI has a lot ot catchup on the EU hate scale.
- Ylpertnodi 3mo agoEu person: neither. We'd rather have the Chinese.
- JumpCrisscross 3mo agoYeah, I feel like given two bad choices the EU’s tendency would be to go with a third, worse option.
- 8note 3mo agothe US is looking to break up the EU and is sending its rich people to make riots and violence. choosing chinese seems like a shoo in for better operators
- JumpCrisscross 3mo ago> the US is looking to break up the EU and is sending its rich people to make riots and violence Yes. If our people believe Beijing isn't looking to undermine European integration, we deserve what's coming to us. Simplistic analysis results from illiteracy.
- Normal_gaussian 3mo agoIIRC Apple have been allowed to remove Fornite from the Apple Store, they just fall foul of the EU Digital Markets Act / DMA (?) when also blocking the Epic Games Store as a route to add/sideload it. Removing ChatGPT due to ToS violations seems like it would be ok.
- w10-1 3mo ago> Apple could take the ChatGPT app down No. If Apple did that without a basis in their own App Store policies, they'd spawn antitrust cases. OpenAI damages are a droplet compared to the App Store revenues. > It's insane to cross Apple ... on the question of employee confidentiality. Because the IP landscape is so muddled, they try hard to keep employees happy (most don't leave), and they're very, very good at writing, securing, and enforcing confidentiality agreements.
