I don't think that suicide thing is confirmed. The other day they said cardiac arrest. Who knows. But he has written some really good books, such as https://marshallbrain.com/manna1 https://marshallbrain.com/manna1

Manna is such a prescient reading.
  - pstuart 2y ago
Indeed. I fear we may not make it to the second half of the book, but we gotta keep trying.

Manna shaped a lot of my worldview on tech and humanity. People with vision like that are extremely rare. He will be sorely missed.

I hadn't been to howstuffworks.com in years. It's...very different now. Much more ad heavy, sensational, "the fourth one will amaze you", "doctors hate #7", and just icky in a way I don't remember it being ten years ago.

Spent some time yesterday revisiting the site c 2001, and highly recommend as a catharsis and reminder of the web as it once was: https://web.archive.org/web/20010202064900/http://howstuffworks.com/ https://web.archive.org/web/20010202064900/http://howstuffwo...

That's even more different (better) than I remembered/imagined, thanks!

https://old.reddit.com/user/MarshallBrain https://old.reddit.com/user/MarshallBrain It's an unusual post history. He seemed to post exclusively in a set of small, self-created subreddits. It's quite an eclectic mix of fascinating subjects! Totally OT: But thank you for using old.reddit.com. I find the new reddit interface to be terrible. Reading some of Marshall Brain's work was always on my ever-expanding to-do list.

I’ve never had close interaction with How Stuff Works itself, but I did get a lot of entertainment and fun knowledge out of Stuff you should know, a podcast spun out of it.
