So looks like ilya is out
- globalnode 3y agoif i was him id leave, do my own thing.
- Jayakumark 3y agoGoogle or AWS or Cohere will welcome him with open hands.
- Cyphase 3y agoAnd/or fistfuls of cash.
- WendyTheWillow 3y agoOr Microsoft.
- resolutebat 3y agoI doubt Microsoft would be willing to host him given that they effectively control OpenAI.
- solarkraft 3y agoWith his mission?
- karmasimida 3y agoHis mission is super alignment So out of all the companies, possibly only Google can provide a model to him right now to do the alignment work
- YetAnotherNick 3y agoGoogle recently cut down the safety team[1] [1]: https://www.ft.com/content/26372287-6fb3-457b-9e9c-f722027f36b3 https://www.ft.com/content/26372287-6fb3-457b-9e9c-f722027f3...
- sherjilozair 3y agoThat's not the safety team.
- karmasimida 3y agoGoogle possibly. But I guess he will stay low key for a longer time now ...
- utopcell 3y agoLarry Page was pretty pissed off with Elon Musk for poaching Ilya [1]. A great opportunity for him to come back to Google. - jacquesm 3y agoThere is some pretty strong proof in TFA that that is not the case.

- jacquesm 3y agoYou wrote in general terms and then afterwards made them specific again. I just answered your comment, which is a subthread all by itself. If you don't like the way HN works that's fine but I don't think you should be making further statements here until you've had a look at the guidelines.

- cameldrv 3y agoHe could easily go to Anthropic.
- breadwinner 3y agoIf you mean out of the board, yes. But then so are Sam Altman and Greg Brockman.
- krick 3y agoYeah, but no. "We hope to continue our working relationship and are discussing how he can continue his work at OpenAI" is not the same as "returning to OpenAI as CEO" and "returns as President". Not very subtle difference, even, huh?
- breadwinner 3y agoIlya is the first guy Sam acknowledged. I believe Sam when he says he harbors zero ill will against Ilya.

- yumraj 3y agoThey’ll be back! Only a matter of time.
- tmalsburg2 3y agoNot clear at all. Ilya leaving would look really bad for OpenAI. Altman needs him to stay, and he keeps the door wide open for that in the statement. Question is: How much is he willing to offer (money and otherwise) to make that happen?
