Ousted OpenAI CEO Makes Plans for New Artificial Intelligence Company
- some_furry 3y agohttps://archive.is/4U6tu https://archive.is/4U6tu For people who met the paywall but aren't using CloudFlare's DNS
- Ephil012 3y agoOut of curiosity, why do you say the bit about not using CloudFlare's DNS? Is using it incompatible with archive.is?
- wmf 3y agoYeah, archive.is doesn't like certain DNS resolvers.
- zx8080 3y agoIs it the other way around: certain DNS resolvers don't like archive.is?
- upon_drumhead 3y agoNo. The archive.is folks intentionally poison dns results for certain resolvers. They have a vendetta against cloudflare for not giving location data to them for dns lookups. https://jarv.is/notes/cloudflare-dns-archive-is-blocked/ https://jarv.is/notes/cloudflare-dns-archive-is-blocked/
- zx8080 3y agoWow, what a shame.
- blueridge 3y agoIs this why I get a never ending loop of captcha prompts? I complete them, they keep coming, never proceeds to the article. I just switched to CloudFlare's DNS records about two weeks ago. I guess I'll flip back and try again!
- some_furry 3y agoYeah the people running archive.today hate CloudFlare.
- fragmede 3y agoI don't think there's hate. it's that serving Cloudflare users threatens the existence of archive.is, due to copyright laws in each jurisdiction

- pyb 3y agoChances are he's just saying that as negociating leverage with OpenAI, so as perhaps getting his job back.

- supriyo-biswas 3y agoI'm not sure anyone would want to come back to a company after having been maligned as a liar in public, let alone the CEO.
- gardenhedge 3y agoPlus now everyone is very aware of the allegations against him by his sister.
- brucethemoose2 3y agoAnd the company he comes back to would be torn in half. How could Altman work with the leaders who ousted him, and the employees who supported it?
- theptip 3y agoWell obviously Sutskever would get the axe, and you’d expect at least some (if not all) of the existing board to step down so that Altman's faction had a majority. It would be a complete capitulation to bring him back at this point. Unclear how many of the rank and file are loyal to either faction to the point of walking away.
- edgyquant 3y ago> obviously Sutskever would get the axe, That would be a huge mistake he’s irreplaceable. Like it or not OpenAI is his brainchild and any company without him is just another Claude/Grok/Bard and not the source of these innovations.
- MaximilianEmel 3y agoHe better call it "NextAI".
- brucethemoose2 3y ago"OpenishAI"
- CottonMcKnight 3y agoMariaAI
- Jensson 3y agoClopenAI, it is both open and closed!
- brucethemoose2 3y agoSchrödinger AI, open and closed simultaneously depending on how its observed?

- mekster 3y agoLibreAI
- imheretolearn 3y agoAltAI
- sillysaurusx 3y agoGapingAI: wide open (This was briefly on the table for Eleuther’s name, but sadly no one but me seemed willing to march under the gaping banner.)
- borissk 3y agoClosed AI
- imheretolearn 3y ago> OpenAI’s former president who stepped down in solidarity with Mr. Altman From what I've read online, it was more like forced to step down. > if i start going off, the openai board should go after me for the full value of my shares It sure looks like the bridges are burned > the next world-changing company I don't know how feasible is it to build two world changing companies in the same space in the same decade
- sbierwagen 3y ago>It sure looks like the bridges are burned The joke is that Altman doesn't actually have any equity in OpenAI. He was only paid in cash, and according to OpenAI's nonprofit tax filings, just $58K a year? https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/810861541 https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/810...
- zeven7 3y agoThe speculation I've read online is that he may have also been paid in profit sharing units.
- nunez 3y agoI never thought that the Michael Scott Paper Company maneuver would ever happen in real life, but I guess anything is possible in 2023.
- aws_ls 3y agolol... this was more like Dwight did a coup and Michael Scott was forced to.
- belter 3y agoIt will be called Clippy...
