I applied and got to the essay and turned back. Feels like college admissions all over again. I’m too old and too mature for that. Technical questions? Fine. Behavioral, sure. Firing squad of 5 engineers for 3 hours of co-programming, ouch but ok… 1,000 words on why I love Canonical? I have just 6 letters: Ubuntu. If you really want to shave the neck beard down to 5: Debian.
- amelius 3y ago> 1,000 words on why I love Canonical ChatGPT to the rescue?
- gabereiser 3y agoThere’s only so many ways to say kubernetes. I don’t think LLM can write a pager on Canonical without sounding repetitive.
- saghm 3y agoI don't think a lot of humans could either; I doubt I could!
- jacobr1 3y ago[dead]
- roarcher 3y ago486 words. If there's one thing I've noticed ChatGPT sucks at, it's writing things with a specific number of words.
- bennettnate5 3y agoDebian is 6 letters as well, though I agree--Debian really brings most of what I love about Ubuntu.
- gabereiser 3y agoUgh, you’re right, Mondays suck. Debian is also 6 letters. However, it’s Ubuntu that really brings what I love about Debian. Ubuntu is downstream. Debian is up. Debian will always have a place in my lab.
- hx8 3y agoI wish more companies screened for writing competency. The better the writer, the smaller the 1000 word hurdle is. With async & remote work this skill is as important as ever.
- gabereiser 3y agoAs mentioned, ChatGPT will just fill in. Want me to write 1,000 words? Fine, but let me chose the topic. I’ll keep it technical.
- Sunspark 3y agoYou are writing why you LOVE Canonical though. It's not enough to like them or respect them. You have to LOVE them. For 1000 words.
- glonq 3y agoI'd do that, in exchange for Canonical writing a 1000 word essay on what they love about me. Employment is a two-way street.
- cranium 3y agoA good technical writer produces clear and concise text. A 1000 word essay about the company is more of an exercise in creativity (and one might even say an exercise in "brown nosing").
- pengaru 3y agoI'll write a 1000 word essay about something technical I've worked passionately on. What is that, ~100 lines of text? Trivial. About loving your company? I'm pursuing employment, not trying to join a cult here.
