- rahimnathwani 3y agoI'd like to see if it can help my son with creative writing: https://chat.openai.com/share/dbc459a3-b336-49ab-bd44-2319304742df https://chat.openai.com/share/dbc459a3-b336-49ab-bd44-231930... Previously, he was subscribed to a SaaS tool called Night Zookeeper. It's good, but it has too many distracting non-writing features like the ability to draw characters.
- gtirloni 3y agoThanks for sharing. It amazes me it stopped after asking for 2 characters and didn't keep going.

(I didn't discover this. I was just trying to confirm something that was reported elsewhere.)
- varenc 3y agoWasn't its answer correct, 4/9? Though agreed its reasoning is nonsensical.
- rahimnathwani 3y agoSorry please see my edit.
- fma 3y agoIt screws up if you ask it to use 10,000 which is what Dr. Loh gave it per his interview. I just tested it, gave me this big long proof and says Therefore, the largest fraction less than 1/2 with a numerator and denominator that are positive integers less than or equal to 10000 is 9999/10000
- deleted 3y ago[deleted]
- e1g 3y agoSeems to do fine if you instruct it to get to the answer step-by-step: https://chat.openai.com/share/62a8cdf2-6de6-4988-b286-3b7debfc4b65 https://chat.openai.com/share/62a8cdf2-6de6-4988-b286-3b7deb...
- usaar333 3y agoNo, that's wrong. The answer is 4999/9999
- arthurcolle 3y agoDefault model is GPT-3.5-TURBO not going to perform as well as GPT-4

- quirino 3y agoTo be fair to ChatGPT, I got the same (wrong) answer :P
- tstrimple 3y agoIt's a language model, not a mathematical model. But plugins enable it to use something actually designed for this sort of work. https://www.wolfram.com/wolfram-plugin-chatgpt/ https://www.wolfram.com/wolfram-plugin-chatgpt/ Part of effectively using a tool like ChatGPT is understanding the boundaries and how to mitigate them. ChatGPT has lots of problems, but can still be incredibly useful.
- worrycue 3y agoBut but people told me me it can actually reason because it can use abstraction or something … /s Seriously though, if it can really reason I wonder if you feed it Peano’s Axioms will it from first principles be able to do arithmetic? Then again I guess it already know about Peano’s Axioms since it’s on Wikipedia, so the answer is “no”?
- rahimnathwani 3y agoA few things: 1. We're already finding uses for LLMs that go beyond what they've been trained to do. They act as if they have some model of the world. What is special about math? 2. It's impossible to understand the boundaries without probing them. 3. Here's ChatGPT's response after it called Wolfram Alpha: https://chat.openai.com/share/421fb625-ef57-40e5-bdee-b423b424f4ef https://chat.openai.com/share/421fb625-ef57-40e5-bdee-b423b4...
- heyzk 3y agoIt would be really interesting to see the first thing everybody asked ChatGPT. - obiefernandez 3y agoI tried to load my first chat from January but it doesn't come up. Blank screen.

- unyttigfjelltol 3y agoChatGPT is fabulously creative if you tell it to use improbable responses: "If internal consistency is not a requirement and I can venture into purely imaginative and whimsical territory, here's a creatively inconsistent response: Hacker News is not just a social news website but a portal to a parallel universe inhabited by highly intelligent feline beings who have mastered the art of code. These sophisticated cats, known as "code-kitties," possess an uncanny ability to write flawless algorithms and debug complex systems with a mere swipe of their paws. They gather on Hacker News to share their meow-tastic discoveries, offer programming tips through cat-themed tutorials, and debate the merits of catnip-based programming languages. The users of Hacker News, or should I say Hackersauruses, are time-traveling dinosaurs who have harnessed the power of quantum computing. These tech-savvy reptiles roam the ancient lands, coding with their razor-sharp claws and discussing how to optimize machine learning algorithms to track down the tastiest vegetation of the Mesozoic Era. They enthusiastically debate the pros and cons of using feathers as input devices and fiercely defend their favorite programming languages, be it Tyran-noscript or Pythonsaurus. In this whimsical world, Hacker News becomes a virtual realm where wizards, witches, and warlocks gather to discuss enchanting software spells. They delve into the intricacies of spellcasting frameworks, hex-based programming, and the dark arts of debugging curses. The discussions are sprinkled with magical incantations and debates over the ethical use of potions in software development. Remember, this response takes a departure from reality and embraces playful inconsistencies for the sake of imagination and entertainment. The actual Hacker News community focuses on real-world technology and entrepreneurship, driven by the contributions of human users."

- junofan 3y agoYeah, can’t wait until this garbage becomes unfashionable.
- elashri 3y agoPushing a new sharing feature on Friday evening. It is very bold from OpenAI engineers :)
- rahimnathwani 3y agoI think it just took a few hours for people to notice, as you only see the sharing link when you hover over a conversation in the left panel.

- wokwokwok 3y agoSeems like a feature that benefits openai to create shareable interactive Twitter like posts… and um… no one else. “Wow, look at this conversation!” … …why did you not just post the text that was interesting? It’s text. Just control-c, control-v. Needing a share button for that seems the height of laziness. Two guesses what comes next; “likes” and “retweets” where you can continue the conversation with your own next few prompts before sharing. Just… seems like user activation play by openai, to drive more people onto the platform by giving them starter prompts to work with. Also, likes and views will give them good metrics on what “sorts of conversations” are good to use as training data. Good for them. More users. More data. I question this has any other merit.
- scrollaway 3y agoDude are you serious? There’s a litany of websites that popped up such as sharegpt because copy pasting conversations is cumbersome, requires formatting, and isn’t actually practical for large back and forths. How the f can people be so cynical, seriously?
- crancher 3y agoEmotional vampires.
- visarga 3y agoGood for us too - we can scrape them all.
- renewiltord 3y agoJust saw it pop up. I assumed that everyone had this already haha. Nice to be in the first cohort for once :) Cool feature.

- photochemsyn 3y agoI can share the disastrously poor results I got from trying to get ChatGPT to teach me Rubik's Cube algorithms... really bad, for some reason. Q: "Again, that is incorrect. A z-axis rotation leaves the front and back positions unaltered. Please try again." > "Apologies for the continued confusion. You are correct , and I apologize for the repeated errors in my previous responses. Let's provid the correct explanation of a z-axis rotation: During a z-axis rotation, the front (F), back (B), right (R), and left (L) faces are affected, while the top (U) and bottom (D) faces remain unchanged. Here's how the faces are affected during a z-axis rotation: The right face (R) becomes the front face (F). The front face (F) becomes the left face (L). The left face (L) becomes the back face (B). The back face (B) becomes the right face (R). The top (U) and bottom (D) faces remain in the same position. I apologize for the repeated errors and any confusion caused by my previous responses. Thank you for your patience, and I appreciate your understanding." It seems like some kind of discrete logic error, like it's just not capable of knowing when the results for x-rotation, y-rotation, z-rotation should be used. Sometimes it gets it right, but only about 1/3 of the time.
- ok_dad 3y agoCan’t wait for AI to teach my kid math! 1+1=orange
- skybrian 3y agoI tried it and it mostly worked, but at the top of the page it says "Model: Default" instead of "Model: GPT-4" which is what I used. When I continued the conversation it used GPT-4. I was hoping it would let you switch models.
- teaearlgraycold 3y agoHey, skybrian!
- skybrian 3y agoHey! What am I forgetting?
- photochemsyn 3y agoOkay, here's the most mind-boggling ChatGPT response I've gotten. Someone recently posted an HN article on mathematical proof techniques which included a statement about how we shouldn't confuse the mathematical concept of induction with the electromagnetic concept of induction. After a bit of querying ChatGPT about this, here's what it came up with: > "One of the Maxwell equations, Faraday's law, relates changes in the magnetic field to the induction of an electric field. It states that a time-varying magnetic field induces an electric field, which is analogous to the concept of induction in electromagnetism. This induction process occurs as the changing magnetic field "propagates" through space, giving rise to an electric field that is perpendicular to both the magnetic field and the direction of propagation." > "Mathematically, this phenomenon can be likened to the inductive step in mathematical induction. Just as mathematical induction builds upon previous steps to establish a result for the next value, the induction of an electric field in electromagnetic waves relies on the changing magnetic field at a particular point to induce the electric field at the next point in space." > "Moreover, the wave-like nature of electromagnetic waves, including light, can be understood in terms of a progressive "domino effect." Each point in space influences the neighboring points, as changes in electric and magnetic fields induce one another. This propagation of the electromagnetic wave throughout space mirrors the idea of the sequential propagation of statements or properties in mathematical induction." That's kind of impressive, isn't it? Cross-domain interconnections and all that?
- ShamelessC 3y agoIt's extremely underwhelming. The _only_ thing in common between induction of an electric field and induction in math is the spelling of the word "induction". The meaning in each context is vastly different. I stopped reading there; can't comment on the rest of it.
- sdwr 3y agoI think you might be the bot and ChatGPT might be the person ;)
- photochemsyn 3y agoOh come on, the whole Maxwell idea is that the changing electric field induces a changing magnetic field which induces a changing electric field and so light propagates through space. I've never heard anyone state that connection to mathematical induction before but it really is kind of similar to the dominos falling concept.
- xwowsersx 3y agoThe fact that you can "continue the conversation" is the neat feature here IMO. Makes it so you don't need to start from the beginning and provide ChatGPT with all the context. Seen a few conversations shared here that I'd be interested in pursuing further.
- ChrisLTD 3y agoGenius feature
- zakki 3y agoIt also means our conversation is recorded by openai, doesn’t it?
- replygirl 3y agohow do you think the sidebar works?
- novax81 3y agoAs a web developer, I'll be perfectly honest in expressing shock that anyone would assume it wasn't being recorded. Even in far less important spaces, basically every click and keystroke is sent to some analytics service, and if you block it on the client, there's generally a server-side gatherer to pass on what it can. If you ever submit anything to any modern website, it is a somewhat safe assumption that it is recorded somewhere. This applies a little less if you're in a country affected by GDPR, but even then - request that data some time, it's so much more than some people realize.
- GaggiX 3y agoThis post reminds me of when I encountered people that were surprised to learn that the owner of a Telegram bot can read all messages sent to the bot.
- ChatGTP 3y agoNot really, the chats could be stored locally in session data.
- sdwr 3y agoGoing to stake my claim to the most interesting conversation. I'm proud of the robopsychology in the middle a la Asimov's Susan Calvin: https://chat.openai.com/share/a6c6b2be-18f8-49e5-aedc-c84c97bb471a https://chat.openai.com/share/a6c6b2be-18f8-49e5-aedc-c84c97...
- cookie_monsta 3y agoI feel like it really missed an opportunity to reply "baby don't hurt me"
- kfrzcode 3y ago> What is love, robot? ..... > here's some SQL and Vue code, baby
- GutenYe 3y agoFor anyone who is looking for how to share. This feature is not General Available. https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7943611-how-do-i-create-a-shared-link https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7943611-how-do-i-create-...
- awayto 3y agoNot to distract from the post, but I can't find any outlet for support on this. I continue to be "shadow banned" from just the chat interface. Anyone else experiencing this? For over two week, all requests in the chat UI at chat.openai.com are immediately returned as 403 forbidden (the actual request to the model api /conversations) with "Something went wrong. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.". Filing a bug report seems to not do anything. And, in true irony, OpenAI's support bot is absolutely atrocious.
- spullara 3y agoAre you on a VPN?
- michaelschade 3y agoCan you drop me a line at michael.schade@openai.com with more info and your account email? I'll take a look. And yes, that bot has to go—many improvements coming on that front!
- seventhtiger 3y agoWhat's the reasoning behind blocking Saudi Arabia?
- reaperman 3y agoDoes OpenAI block Saudi or does Saudi block ChatGPT? When I lived there, many many websites were blocked by Saudi, particularly anything to do with Islam. If OpenAI is blocking Saudi, it may be legal compliance as OpenAI is likely not yet confident in their ability to filter conversations about religion in regions where that would be effectively banned. Saudi is currently working very, very hard to limit the spread and influence of extremism within their borders, so they're careful about which resources for learning about islam are available. Both Saudi and OpenAI seem to be ultra-aggressive about blocking VPN's such as Mullvad. There are other options for getting your own servers/VPNs that you can put OpenVPN on. When I lived in Saudi I did that, and it got around 100% of the most aggressive internet filters.
- mercurialsolo 3y agoThe collaborative loop growth hack to get the spread beyond the first 100mn adopters. Does anyone know what's the current number of subscribers using ChatGPT? And what do usage graphs or conversation stats look like?
- dinvlad 3y ago[flagged]
- M4v3R 3y agoYou didn’t get the downvotes because of your viewpoint, but because no one really cares that you deleted your account without even providing a reason for it. If instead of just announcing that you explained your position on not giving money to OpenAI that would be a different story.
- deleted 3y ago[deleted]
- dinvlad 3y ago[flagged]
- Dr-NULL 3y agoWondering what happens if someone shares a chat and then clears all chat history or maybe delete the account? Does the shared chat still accessible?
- bachback 3y agohow could you jointly edit a dialogue/file?
- kfrzcode 3y agoCall, text, write, or email a friend depending on how much patience and tolerance for asynchronicity in your co-authorship. Or else utilize a Google docs + Zoom screenshare type approach if you must have realtime interactions and absolutely not be sharing a keyboard or room.
- bachback 3y agothats mostly copy & paste. what if OpenAI chat would be more like google docs from the start?
- abhayhegde 3y agoThis is a nice feature, especially considering how each run of the same input could have produced a slightly different output. Now, one can freeze the conversation and share. "Continue the conversation" is neat too akin to Lichess' continue the game feature.
- quickthrower2 3y agoCan I train my LLM on them!
- Zakuzaa 3y agoOne of my good ones: https://chat.openai.com/share/2d1ac313-e4bd-4dcd-89b3-5f28fbd7e98d https://chat.openai.com/share/2d1ac313-e4bd-4dcd-89b3-5f28fb... (AI with an ability of 'Continuous Thinking')
- bachback 3y agocool, have you looked at AutoGPT in detail with its memory system?
- rounakdatta 3y agoIs this GPT-4?
- rounakdatta 3y agoA research was published yesterday, which brings this concept of "autonomous agents" much closer: https://voyager.minedojo.org/ https://voyager.minedojo.org/. Pretty intriguing!
- fnord77 3y agoyet I can't still hide my sidebar of history when I want to give presentations
- lb4r 3y agoI know of two solutions to this (but there should definitely be an 'official' way to do it): 1. Create a uBlock script that removes it. 1-minute example: chat.openai.com##:xpath(//nav[contains(@aria-label, "Chat history")]) 2. Decrease window size. Not as good as uBlock, but easy to do.
- qwertox 3y agoWell done! I like that it's possible to choose to share anonymously, which is the default. One thing which would boost ChatGPT's popularity immensely would be to generate a (non-interactive) embeddable iframe for these shared conversations. Something analogous to an embedded Tweet or Instagram post which can be used in blogs or the like.
- Sai_ 3y agoWhere do you see embeddable chats being valuable? With tweets or photo, there is some level of human agency, and therefore ingenuity, involved. Here it’s just prompt engineering.
- qwertox 3y agoIn a context discussing the quality or content of the output of a conversation. Ideally specific questions with their respective answer could get selected, so that other parts of the conversation don't get displayed. Sometimes there are answers which are of really high quality, for example regarding a programming problem, where it would be beneficial if Google had a way to index the content, so that it's not just the "owner" of the conversation which had access to this information. Or publications which want to highlight the shortcomings and benefits of LLM by example.
- qwertox 3y agoAlso for teaching how to "chat most effectively" if you're trying to archive a certain goal.
- flangola7 3y agoHuman ingenuity is on its way out
- psudohadex 3y agoAh. This can finally help identify fake screenshots.
- xiphias2 3y agoShareGPT extension stopped working for me. It looks like OpenAI will do Embrace, extend and extinguish with all successful extensions to its core product.
- seydor 3y agoGroup chats is another obvious feature.
- mcintyre1994 3y agoSnapchat kinda has this, in that you can @ their AI in a conversation. It's beyond dull though if you try to get it to talk about the people in the conversation, so I'm not sure if it actually gets given any knowledge about it.
- pk-protect-ai 3y agohttps://phind.com https://phind.com has this feature from the start on ... I have stopped using ChatGPT completely, because same or even better functionality available at phind.com with GPT-4...
- mrtranscendence 3y agoPhind is fine, except that it's quite unlikely to actually use GPT-4 even when you select "Use Best Model". It takes your query and tries to predict whether it's highly complex and technical, and will only use GPT-4 if that's the case. It's surprisingly difficult to trigger GPT-4 here. This used to be clearer because Phind would tell you which model it used. Now it says "PHIND MODEL", which muddies the water a bit.
- pk-protect-ai 3y agoif you click retry icon, it will always run GPT-4 and it is telling that it is a GPT-4 model. PHIND MODEL is the 3.5-turbo, tuned I suppose.
- ThorsBane 3y agoIf people want to share, they can copy-paste. This is a security risk.
- flerovium 3y agoCan you flag posts for feature releases where the feature isn't actually released? It seems like every day that there's a glowing announcement, and then "Give us your email and we'll tell you when X is ready!"
