House Republicans Ready to Give Big Tech the Benghazi Treatment
- renewedrebecca 4y agoI know it's only the 11th, but I'm already sick of hearing about the House Republicans. They _barely_ have control of _one_ half of _one_ branch of the Federal government. They can't pass legislation. They can't make binding rules for anyone. Their own power is literally being a giant pain in the ass. We'd all be way better off as a country if the news media especially treated them with less attention and respect than they are getting right now.
- seanw444 4y agoI love me some good government gridlock.
- kadoban 4y ago> They _barely_ have control of _one_ half of _one_ branch of the Federal government. They can't pass legislation. They can't make binding rules for anyone. Their own power is literally being a giant pain in the ass. They can, and quite possibly will, cause a default on the US debt. So we have that to look forward to.
- marcusverus 4y ago> We'd all be way better off as a country if the news media especially treated them with less attention and respect than they are getting right now. What does it mean for the media to treat House Republicans with less respect? How would that make us better off as a country?
- benzible 4y agoCalling out bad-faith investigations that are explicitly designed to game the "both sides" bias of the news media for what they are. - marcusverus 4y agoSo the media should assume bad faith on the part of Republicans in particular, and call out that bad faith as though it were fact? Or is there some objective case that can be made that the Republicans are acting in bad faith that doesn't apply equally as well to Democrats?
- benzible 4y agoThere absolutely is: https://www.nybooks.com/online/2020/11/01/americas-press-and-the-asymmetric-war-for-truth/ https://www.nybooks.com/online/2020/11/01/americas-press-and... (https://archive.vn/kF4y5 https://archive.vn/kF4y5)
- marcusverus 4y agoThis is an opinion piece which seems to me to be entirely untethered from reality. Far from objective.
- ProjectArcturis 4y agoSo, like Benghazi, we can look forward to 2 years of enormously hyped nothingburgers designed solely to score political points.
- Khelavaster 4y agoSome big tech companies very improperly colluded with the White House or with the democratic/republican parties. They need to be opened up to the public.
- ProjectArcturis 4y agoWhat evidence do you have for that claim?
- stjohnswarts 4y agoThey know there is only grid lock because they are anti-anything democrat originated. This is more political theater to apease their constituents, especially the MAGA crowd. Nothing will come of it, just wasted tax dollars like with Benghazi. There will also be 2 years of committees and "investigation" of Biden that turns up nothing as well, and taxpayers will be out a few hundred million for no reason.
- stuckinhell 4y agoBig Tech is safe. House republicans can't do much. They barely control the house. Republicans don't control the senate or the presidency. Don't worry, our jobs should be safe. Though a lot humanities and journalists will probably hype this for clickbait.
