You're wrong.
You can't change lanes and jam your brakes, that's both illegal (if a human did it) and goes beyond unsafe.
- verdverm 4y agoWhat exactly did I say that was wrong? I think you are responding to something I did not say
- kadoban 4y ago> Clickbait, the Tesla was at the front of the pileup, all drivers should always maintain sufficient distance should the vehicle in front need to make an emergency brake. This is just plain wrong by implication. There is no safe distance for someone swerving into your lane and slamming on the breaks. There's nothing for the cars behind to fix, that's entirely the fault of the car in front.
- jacquesm 4y agoIndeed, besides brake-checking cars behind you is also illegal. There are some limits to 'the car behind is automatically at fault'.
- dekhn 4y agoHuman reaction time is about 250ms, so you can actually estimate the safe distance based on current velocity in normal circumstances. Since lane change/brake slamming is common in the bay area, I got used to it and generally drive super-cautiously in the situations that lead to it (lane speed differentials is a common cause).
