It might be massively abused to ban customers that don't tip well, or have inconvenient access to their homes, too.

- bloodyplonker22 4y agoFrom what I've read, the tip is shown to the driver before he even accepts the job. If the driver does not like the tip, he won't accept the job in the first place.
- Nursie 4y agoThis is just so wrong at this point. Uber eats is a delivery service which takes what, 25% of the food bill? And then adds delivery fees on top of that before checkout, and then asks you for a tip before the service has even happened. If I order $100 of stuff, I might be charged $110. Of that, the delivery service and driver get $35, and I'm conditioned to volunteer another $10 on top of that, just to drive some food a couple of kilometers. Yet the drivers complain of poor pay and conditions, and uber is not profitable either. Something seems very wrong.
- anovikov 4y agoHere in Europe, delivery people make probably from 50% to 100% of what they make in the U.S. (around the minimum wage or bit more), and a delivery surcharge of 5 euros is considered outrageously high. Many places have delivery for no fee if you pay same price as dine-in, or 10% takeaway discount => implied delivery surcharge is 11%. Some add 2e on top of it if delivery is by scooter or 3-4e if by car, or 5e tops. In our country of only 1M people, there are 3 competing delivery services similar to uber eats (one of them is Bolt), but most places have their own drivers employed full time and people usually order directly, it builds customer loyalty for the places too. I struggle to understand how these 3rd services can make money because they hardly add any value. How are they better than restaurant's own delivery guy?
- Nursie 4y agoYeah I think it's high time to return to that. I guess their "value-add" is that restaurants don't need to have their own full-time delivery guy they just contract out ... but when they take such a huge cut of the food bill, it seems unlikely to work out well for anyone but a very low-volume operation. (I'm in Australia, those were Australian $ :)
- hedora 4y agoWe constantly get ghosted by Uber / Lyft drivers because the road to our house has a few tight turns on it. I wish there was a "I'll pay double; just find someone that can drive well, and will actually show up" button in those apps. (Yes, I tip well.)
- hsbauauvhabzb 4y agoRecently Uber drivers have started delivering our food a street over, we just wish we could report the bug.
