Apple desperately needs an Senior UI designer who rules with an iron fist. Who tests the UI and gets pissed off at discrepancies, design choices not based on empirical studies, and change for the mere sake of change.

Agreed. It’s really sloppy. It has the feel of a My First App build. People defend it as just being a beta release. But it’s fundamentally bad in a way that a few tweaks to the UI during late development is going to fix.

  The beta defence is so weird. They have a whole year from release to release. System Settings feels so buggy and poorly-designed, you have to wonder if development started five minutes before WWDC. I hate to speak ill of developers' hard efforts, but I heavily dislike how much of this was left until the developer previews and public betas. Apple didn't need to wait until they made it available to us for at least one person to be able to see it was a pile of shit. We should be providing feedback for polish, not having to complain about the fundamental design of the damn thing. If it's not ready, it shouldn't happen until the next release — or System Preferences should remain included.

    From the screenshots, looks like some intern that never coded macOS applications in first place. Still, someone should vetted it.

Apple desperately needs a CEO who cares about UI. In fairness, so do most big tech corps. It's rare.

  Steve letting very little bullshit fly is probably what made Apple so special. It's great that they're adding long awaited features now, but quality has deteriorated so much. I can think of very few UI bugs from back in the day, even with jailbreak tweaks installed! Now they're not all that uncommon. macOS has a ton of bugs related to the window overview that can't be unknown but haven't been fixed in 2 major releases.
