Behind the scenes of Waymo’s worst automated truck crash
- MBCook 4y agoThe fact the Waymo safety driver and engineer won’t talk to the cops is very sketchy. That said I wonder if this was purposeful on the other truck’s side. See the thing coming to take your job and decide to run it off the road.
- kadoban 4y ago> The fact the Waymo safety driver and engineer won’t talk to the cops is very sketchy. Not talking to the cops is the best strategy. The cops' job is to find people to charge with crimes. Things you tell them will be used really only for that. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=d-7o9xYp7eE
- jdlshore 4y agoThis is a ridiculous, fearmongering article. The Waymo truck was driving in autonomous mode, with a safety driver and software operator, when another semi crashed into it (“entered its lane”) and forced it off the road. The driver suffered moderate injuries.
- MBCook 4y agoI didn’t read any fearmongering. It seemed to lay out the accident and the facts pretty simply. Heck a large part of the article wasn’t even about those involved but the fact that police don’t seem ready or trained for the fact autonomous vehicles are operating on their roads. But that’s a failure of local government not the industry.
- ggm 4y agoThere's two parts to the story I want somebody to explore further 1) was the encroaching driver doing this consciously, and was it because it was automated driving? Ie was this harrassment? 2) Why are Waymo being (as somebody else said) so sketchy about contact to them and the driver? Is this just hanlon's law and the phone # was mistranscribed or are they deliberately avoiding contact because "reasons"
- labrador 4y agoI expected something like 1) to happen because there a lot of truckers worried about their future right now with new changes they have no control over
