The only winners from war are oligarchs and the "defense" industry..
- Aeolun 5y agoUnfortunately you will need defense as long as you have madmen ruling some of the countries around you.
- Hamuko 5y agoWell, historically the madman in this part of the world has been Germany. Germany doesn't really have a border with Russia to worry about like for example the Baltics have.

- jonathanstrange 5y agoAnd now it's Putin.
- isbvhodnvemrwvn 5y agoI see that you're the fan of appeasement strategy. Worked out well for France and the UK in the past.
- Hamuko 5y agoWho are you arguing against?
- rat9988 5y ago> historically the madman in this part of the world has been Germany I guess different history books paint different histories.
- andybak 5y agoCan you clarify what part of this you are disputing? The first half of the 20th century was indisputably dominated by German aggression in Europe and I'd like to see a history book paint that differently. I'm not sure I agree with GP's broader point but your riposte makes no sense.
- adventured 5y agoIt wasn't just the first half of the 20th century, either. The various German states were warmongers for much of the 19th century as well. Bismarck was a monster; people look far too kindly upon his history, he was an outright war criminal that was obsessed with conquering.
- Aeolun 5y ago> he was an outright war criminal that was obsessed with conquering Yeah, but Europe’s been fine with any conquering anyone was doing outside of Europe. It’s upsetting the delicate balance within that’s the issue.
- snovv_crash 5y agoMadmen need a fertile soil to grow in, otherwise they don't get any support from the population. That is no longer Germany, but I can think of another country which has a charismatic head of state with ambitions of restoring the country to its previous level of international standing.
- mandmandam 5y agoAlso banks, media, fossil fuels, pharma, and stockholders in those companies.
