DeepMind wants to use its AI to cure neglected diseases
- raxxorrax 5y agoI worked as an engineer for medical appliances and had a lot of contacts with doctors and they all requested this. It isn't only interesting to collect medical data from patients. That is their data, they might not want to share it, even if that is neglected by a lot of countries with bad leadership. What would be really helpful on the other hand are projects like this. Not only can doctors get knowledge about exotic conditions by a list of indications, it would also enable general practitioners in regions without quick access to specialists to lend support to their patients. It would be an incredible support for information logistics. The approach to collect patient data is not a complete waste of time, but you need consent (some countries ignore this) and sensible applications. For research it might be relevant, but for the most part doctors have no problem finding volunteers.
