Google's Airtable competitor experiment graduating to full product
- kaminar 5y agoThe only question not answered is "Wtf is tables?" Smh.
- mitchbob 5y agoFrom "How to Use Tables" [1]: "Tables is a collaborative database that lets teams track and automate work, without any coding required. You can store various types of rich information -- people, attachments, dates, locations -- and visualize the data in powerful layouts that make it easier to track your work: kanban boards, ticketing queue, and more. You can also add input forms to collect data, and bots to automate actions in your table." - lupire 5y agoNot in the FAQ: how many years of product life will Google guarantee?
- andrei_says_ 5y ago3-4 or until they find out that adoption is lower than expected? I agree, building a service or business on a newish google product is unwise.
- 1123581321 5y agoI hope they can pull this off. I’m surprisingly often asked to troubleshoot shoestring Google Script trying to accomplish some of these features in Sheets. Like Excel, experts in other areas of life want a powerful data management tool that they can actually set up themselves. Tools like Tables, like Airtable, help with many of these use cases. If Table is properly integrated into Google Cloud and made discoverable to Sheets/Workspace users, then I expect the use of scripts as a stopgap solution will go down.
- ilaksh 5y agoHas anyone built something like AirTable but with a distributed backend? Like using OrbitDB or Barrel DB something? Does a relational or table oriented p2p database exist?
