First AstraZeneca dose can safely be followed by Pfizer for second shot
- Scoundreller 5y agoThere are several aspects to this: 1. Safety in the short term has been confirmed. Not a surprise, but nice to have evidence that nobody insta-died or insta-$bad-thinged 2. « More neutralizing antibodies are produced in this study with Pfizer «. That’s great, but let’s see how well they do when following them around. I was hoping for a comparison with AZ+AZ, but it looks like they only compared AZ+Pfizer against AZ+placebo. They say « In the equivalent trials with a second dose of AstraZeneca, this response was multiplied by three«, but you must be very careful when comparing results from other studies with other participants/methods/inclusions, etc. But what really matters isn’t antibody levels, but how well these groups fare in real life against circulating COVID and its known and unknown, current and future variants. Not anti-vax, just despise drawing conclusions from small limited studies against big phase 3 trials.

- Scoundreller 5y agoThey didn’t study that in this study but compared their results to another study. It’s not wrong to do, but head-to-head comparisons would be best so you’re comparing like to like with the only difference being the vaccination regiment.
