>The problem is they are not approaching the left's extremists with the same fervor
This is a false equivalence. The worst of the alt-right are far, far worse than the worst of the extreme left (antifa, maybe? Though there is no alt-left).
Good riddance to them, I say. If you want to lead the KKK, and advocate for a white ethnostate, I won't lose any sleep when you can't post videos trying to convince others of the same evil ideas.
- eli_gottlieb 6y ago>The worst of the alt-right are far, far worse than the worst of the extreme left (antifa, maybe? Though there is no alt-left). Nah, there are plenty of people advocating for explicit ethno-separatism on the far left -- just look at Louis Farrakhan and his lefty pals. They just don't have very big YouTube channels. People more-or-less naturally ignore them except when they turn out to protests to hijack an ostensibly liberal or socialist cause.
- sweetheart 6y agoThe same group that classifies Louis Farrakhan's Nation of Islam as a hate group (the SLPC) is also saying that the idea that there is a liberal equivalent to the alt-right is a misconception. And you disagreed with what I was saying, but then yourself also stated that there is a large difference between the people who were banned and extreme leftists: the size of their audience.
- halostatue 6y agoLouis Farrakhan is not left-leaning. He’s as conservative as they get. He just happens to not be a white supremacist.
- eli_gottlieb 6y agoTell that to the Women's March, damnit.
- john-shaffer 6y ago> The worst of the alt-right are far, far worse than the worst of the extreme left (antifa, maybe? Though there is no alt-left). There are people that support Stalin and Mao, which is just bad as supporting Hitler.
- jahaja 6y agoThey are called Tankies by leftist for a reason. They're cultist dogmatist and shunned by all but their peers.
- john-shaffer 6y agoThat's reassuring to hear.
- disposekinetics 6y agoA revolutionary Marxist is far more dangerous than a Klan member, but somehow taken less seriously.
- sweetheart 6y agoHow so?
- disposekinetics 6y agoA klan member, at their worst, want to establish an ethno-state and segregation. These are vile things and I am not trying to downplay them at all, but they are at worst locally increasing suffering. A revolutionary Marxist wants a global revolution, and the abolishment of private property. The scale of suffering each group advocates for is not even on the same scale between the klan member and the above.
- ohgodplsno 6y agoA klan member, at worst, wants to literally commit genocide. A marxist wants that every person's needs are fulfilled, the removal of class and equality. Marxism is the definition of an utopia. Yeah, I'll take marxism. You go on ahead and keep on with the bOtH SiDeS rethoric.
- disposekinetics 6y agoDead is dead, it doesn't matter if it's the klan's racial hatred, or if the eye of the party has randomly decided you are the kulak today.
- ohgodplsno 6y agoSigh. You seem to not know about what marxism's goal is, so allow me to help you out. A classless, stateless society. There is no state. There is no party. There is no ruling class. There is noone to send you to the gulag.
- rayiner 6y ago> This is a false equivalence. The worst of the alt-right are far, far worse than the worst of the extreme left (antifa, maybe? Though there is no alt-left). Nope it’s just equivalence: https://panampost.com/panam-staff/2020/06/23/the-links-between-black-lives-matter-and-nicolas-maduro-revealed/ https://panampost.com/panam-staff/2020/06/23/the-links-betwe... (FWIW: I’m quite pro-BLM. I don’t believe in guilt by association. My point is that there are high-profile people in relatively mainstream organizations that are proponents of murderous leftist dictators.)
- ohgodplsno 6y agoThose things are literally not related, and, conveniently enough, panampost if a far right "news" website. Supporting Maduro doesn't invalidate their fight. Supporting marxism doesn't invalidate their fight. Supporting Cuba doesn't invalidate their fight. Oh, by the way, those three are countries or ideologies the US have actively tried to destroy. Should I go and make my own website claiming the US government for dozens of years has been the number one exporter of terrorism in the world ? Oh, right, it actually is. And still, it's still not related to the damn subject.
- rayiner 6y ago> Supporting Maduro doesn't invalidate their fight. Supporting marxism doesn't invalidate their fight. Supporting Cuba doesn't invalidate their fight. That’s exactly what I said: > I’m quite pro-BLM. I don’t believe in guilt by association. I’m responding to an entirely different point: > The worst of the alt-right are far, far worse than the worst of the extreme left I don’t think this statement is accurate given how many people on the extreme left embrace murderers like Maduro. Violent extremism is a problem on both sides. As to Pan Am Post, your assertion that it’s a “far right” site is exactly why so many people are concerned about Twitter and Facebook censorship. Pan Am Post is libertarian with a Latin American focus both in terms of content and the contributors. From Wikipedia: > According to Richard Scheines, dean of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences of Carnegie Mellon University, PanAm Post is "an incredibly rich online site that covers news and offers excellent analyses of all regions in the Americas".[6][7] In 2019 and 2020, the PanAm Post was ranked in a Forbes article as one of the most prominent free-market magazines in the world measured by social media impact.[8][9]
